Seperating the 2 types of wires is a good idea if they have a complete defferent purpose.  Considering ...4 or 16 awg  and 22 awg  hare really far apart......      but you can use a 4 way conector bit you will have to use the corresponding cripms... 

The quation is more where those wires feed the power ?

If I'm reading the wiring diagram right, one of the small wires (orange) connects to a lighting relay, and the other (yellow) goes to a little lamp in the headlight.  Using separate connectors, one big and one mini, seems the way to go...
