Hey what's up, I just wanted to throw together another quick endorsement for DMF sponsor Monster Tail Chop as I recently completed the project on my 2000 M750 and really feel well served by the involved components.

Worth noting before all of this that I am at best a novice mechanic and definitely semi ham-handed in the garage so if this goes as smoothly as it did for me I'd suggest that anyone could do it about as well. I honestly feel that given our experience in piecing together advanced Star Wars Legos my 10yo son likely could have done this work, save perhaps the hacksaw elements (size and safety being the involved issues, lol).

I was absolutely a bit concerned about taking a hacksaw to my rear subframe but the videos on YouTube convinced me that I could do it sensibly so I ordered the parts (shorty tail chop kit, integrated LED taillight and frame plugs, along with reflector screws for the plate). A few hundred bucks and a few days later the kit arrived shipped/packaged squarely, and all components looked very solid... so I dove in.

Really it was a very easy project, the hardest part being the actual cutting of the subframe which was very straighforward, I just wanted to make sure it all came out evenly. Everything went together quickly once the OEM components came off and the hacksaw work was completed. Simple as 1-2-3 installation, including the LED light [I love the fast blink on stop setting]. I'd definitely recommend using the [add cost] aluminum tail plugs as they are much nicer than the plastic parts included with the chop kit.

All in all the project took about an hour and hopefully the results [see pics] speak for themselves. Definitely love the look and it may be my imagination but I feel like it dropped a noticeable amount of weight, increasing flickability!

Good luck and chop that tail!!!

[caveat: I may or may not have posted this to help procure a free T-Shirt, but that said, if the kit wasn't really good I wouldn't want or consider wearing said T-shirt  [thumbsup] ]

Thanks to Monster Tail Chop!

I have some of the tail chop parts. The taillight is much nicer than the clear alternatives one. I personally would suggest to use some type of sealant on the frame plugs to prevent moisture/water from getting in.

Agreed re the light, was just admiring the brightness of the LEDs while parked last night; also love the Mercury Cougar/T-Bird style "progressive" indicated turn signal.

I should have noted that during the chop I followed the advice of the YouTube video and touched up some clear nail polish around the frame to help seal. Hopefully will prevent plugs from shaking loose as well.  ;)
