If I lost my wallet and some stranger returned it to me I'd GLADLY accept it sans whatever cash was in it.  It would be worth it to not have to replace drivers license, gym id, subway sandwich stamp card and what not.

waytogo waytogo - geez that could have gone differently. Good karma.

I found a wallet once. I looked inside saw the name - fat with $20's... Looked up and there he was 30 feet away.
I said, "hey are you - Dude Schmoe Doe? " He freezes. His friends start looking over. There was a big hesitation, then a 3rd person started the "Who wants to know?"
I could see it was him. I stopped and pondered if I wanted to mess with him given the obviously shady way they were holding themselves. But they were a little creepy so I just showed him his wallet.

He jumped for joy, gave me a $20 out of it. He couldn't believe the cash was all there.
