New to ducati's in general and enjoying it thus far. I've purchased a 2009 Ducati Monster 1100 just a month ago with 6600 miles. I come from the oldschool aircooled CB's and loved them...last bike was a 2014 FZ01 which I loved it due to the seating position and comfort of long rides and I kinda miss it, but the rumble/sound/feel of the ducati reminds me why I got one.

I have to get used to the low rpm limiter as I'm used to redlining my fz01 to 12.5k rpm and this one seems to only be 8k and abruptly lets you know to shift. Only other thing I don't like is that if bike shuts off I can't just push start it without the bike getting all squirelly on me from the grabby clutch...my old 71 CB was super smooth to push start or kick start if my battery ever died or I just let the clutch out too soon same went for the FZ.

I'm a heavy dude at 6'5" 265lbs, I feel like my last bike Fz01 was faster not just at the top end...but at bottom end as well. I think I might just have gotten used to the smoothness, speed of my FZ. I know I have to learn to ride this dry clutch bike a lil better and I'll learn to love it!!

Other than that I'm loving my new duc and can't wait to learn from you folks.

Welcome. chug
That hi comp big bore twin will not roll start unless you are in 2nd or 3rd gear +!. You ride the torque curve being in a gear higher than an in line 4. They make for effective point to point weapons on windy roads. Don't be fooled by the lazy drone of the motor as you will get tickets.
Cheers.

Welcome!

I came off a CBR1000F so I can understand your confusion... the Ducati is not a drag bike, but what it loses in top end it makes up for in handling, torque,  and esprit de corps.  It's simply a different kind of power, and certainly a different kind of bike.  Even with 'only' a 800 Monster, I don't really miss the 1000, particularly the weight and heat... although I'll not deny the rush of an I-4 liter-bike at 11000RPM.

I miss the rush of the FZ01 that's for sure...felt like I had instant power and got to speed way faster than the Duc. I know it's different kind of speed/power, but it takes some getting used to. The handling by far is way better on the monter as I don't have to put to much pressure on the bike when countersteering and she starts to lay down when asked with the utmost of ease. That is one area I can't get over, how easy she is to manage. She is also super light compared to my heavy FZ01...I also miss the center stand as I don't like that I can't get the bike up without having to buy something else (rear paddock stand) to clean the chain and/or remove the wheels. The duc nuts issue is another thing to get used to as it seems like I get that constantly even if I move back I tend to keep moving forward after a while even after installing grip tape to the tank and really squeezing the tank with my knees.

Either way, I do love my new bike for the feel/sound/soul of it...next is time to source a 1100 S model to get the forks, rear shock and the gold wheels, then I can get the black/gold tank covers to finish off the look I'm going for. Thanks for your time fella's and safe riding!!
