Projector lamps are excellent, for making pencil beam spot, really tight beam control and no hot spot in the beam pattern. So, they are great for high speed riding on log straight road. (You want to cast the light as far a head as possible.)

Unfortunately, there's no lighting system that does it all.
That tight beam control makes it the light less visible OFF AXIS than conventional reflector lamp, for other road users.

Also, they aren't ideal for riding through the twisty back road at night. (without the aid of auxiliary lamps.)
You can (sort of) see it in my video above, but, one of the biggest advantage of Cibie, Hella and Bosch are the so called "Euro beam pattern".

When you look at the beam pattern on the wall, they look like this

Asymmetrical beam pattern

If you have a headlight with totally flat cut off, and have no aux lights (as cornering lamp), and going through corners,  where you want to see is outside of beam pattern.

Makes it look much more modern than the OEM.  As someone else stated, I'd say it decreases visibility for cars approaching from the sides.  But riding at night this unit catches reflections off of animal's eyes on the side of the road much better/from farther away. That's the main reason I got it.
