"il Monstor" s2r 1k lives; its ALIVE!

In part thanks to some helpful advise from the good peps at DMF. Duc painter & speed dogs to name a few; advised on the cases ... that I luckily found last year, and had inner guts and  components, valve heads, and cylinder swapped by the  duc steeler-ship ( looked at doing this on my own too but just too many special tools and things to know for this back yard mechanic) .

Also a good deal from one of our members on a much needed lockset, red keys and ecu for the lost key that I worried about incessantly. This leads to first question.

Did the final tweaking this Saturday morning of the rebuild; have been putting back together for some time; was going to send the original 2007 gauge set with the miss matched 06 keys, card, ignition, and ecu to SOS; but wanted to test all out before sending so Id have and idea what did and didn't work ... all together with; new battery, fresh 94 octane gas, fresh 10W 40 4 stroke moto oil, etc; ...

hooked up battery; faint high pitched noise is emitted from gauge cluster for 20 seconds (ut oh; whats that?); note that the yellow light on gauges then flashes; there's life!; ha odd not supposed to do that right?; oh well...put black key in ignition to test thinking; lights may work or  - nothing at all - with mismatched gauges and ecus  ... turn ignition to on position; lights go on ha!, not bad -me thinks- and what was that noise; hold on was that the fuel pump priming?; naaaa; well lets go all out turn key off/ on again; yep fuel pump primes! (that's not supposed to happen! ok ok all out hit the starter! OMG ist turning over omg it fired;  mother flipping -wtf!- amazing!; soooo start the process all over again and she sputters to life!; over whelmed seeing il monster coughing and sputtering right before my eyes; like my first boarn; ;D ....so what's going on here?

q#1 - I'm guessing the non original ecu has had its immobilizer programmed off (turned off); is that why its working with the original miss matched gauge set?

As il monster is sputtering and coughing and stalled  a couple of times; I'm also hearing a fairly loud tapping coming from the front horizontal valves, could be overly concerned; and the front header pipethat I had to reuse was crushed pretty bad to 1/2 its diameter (need a s2r 1K front connector header from 2nd udder from a 800 doner); q2 is - is loud tapping from head indicative of a larger potential problem?

thanks again for all your advise and input. [thumbsup]

Immobilizer has been eliminated from spare ecu.

Tapping might be an exhaust leak if that pipe was as badly crushed as you say, or it might be a problem internally. Figure it out before you run it a lot.

Hopefully just the pipe gasket. Put a thick towel over the area and see if the noise is muffled. Careful, bloody hot! Otherwise check valve clearances. DP is right, be careful until it's resolved.

Spray carb cleaner at the exhaust connection and listen for the change in the idle.

- my lucky day- with the immob being eliminated - thanks for confirming; just saved a great deal of time, hassles & "un sacco di soldi denaro's"! with that turned off; didn't know that when I bought it but had an idea when she sputtered to life!

Yep, there's deff some leaks in the exhaust; I tried to bend out the crushed pipe as much as possible; lol ...its just for short term testing purposes until other doner parts are located ...lol cant believe I did dat. Oh yes and I do need to get some exhaust gaskets I think ... that might be it and thanks for confirming to take er easy with that tapping; and carb cleaner to check for leaks; ( is that safe?; that's volatile stuff!)

Do what koko said.  Spraying carb cleaner is a technique for intake leaks, not exhaust.  And, yes a possible fire hazard.

Smoldering paper, or a lit cigarette, held close to the exhaust junction can help trace an exhaust leak.

Or a fuel leak  [evil]
