I am changing out sprockets and chain today for the first time.  My manual says to torque the front sprocket to 135 ft/lbs but when I was taking it off it had maybe 30 ft/lbs on it.  It was very easy to loosen up.  Is 135 ft/lbs way too much?

Factory manual says 186 Nm (137 ft lbs) with grease.

Same with my manual so I am going with it.  It was just weird how loose it was already.  I have replaced front sprockets on my other bikes over the years and I was expecting a fight to get this off and boy was I surprised how loose it was!  ;D

Not sure how it would come loose with a bent over sprocket lock washer on it but I guess anythings possible ;)

I've not seen one that came 'loose', and you were correct in expecting a fight to get it off.

Thin nut, threads only on the tops of the splines, very tight, and a hostile environment.
All conspire to make it come loose easy.

If you look at the threads inside the nut, you can likely see where they've squashed a little.

Got it all tightened down to spec last night.  That 14 tooth front sprocket really does make a huge difference.  I also put on a fresh pair of Rosso IIIs and scrubbed those in this morning.  Seems to be a pretty good tire.  Warms up quickly and scrubbed in quickly.  Only odd thing about them is at about 65MPH they make a whistling sound.  Not sure if it is because the stippling has sharp edges and catches the wind just right or what.  If I lay off the gas and hold the clutch in at 65mph it sounds like a bomb dropping from an old bugs bunny cartoon as I loose speed lol.

It's a common problem on my Triple.
