HI I i just finished replacing the seal between the water pump engine on my 2008 Monster s4r when I realised i had lost the Key. After pulling my hair out as well as tipping my place upside down i finally gave up n bit the bullet. I pulled out my dash and ecu n paid the man for a new key chipped and programmed. This was an aftermarket autolocksmith that i have used before to make a black key from a red one and was satisfied with the result.

This time i had no keys and he made me a full set 2 black 1 red . Before you ask yes he gets the necessary code from Ducati Italy to reprogram the immobilizer. Any way enough back story. Ill cut to the question  if the  keys arnt doing there thing with the immobilizer what would happen . i.e. would the engine turn over n no spark occur?   Is what i am thinking..

I'm thinking that's not what happens. Years ago, I discovered that the headlights and dash are on the same fuse... Because I shorted the brake light wires, and nothing worked. It's been a minute, but I think it wouldn't even turn over, but the immobiliser light blinked furiously or lit up solid.

yeah thanks for your imput, All the lights are working but its interesting what u said about the immobilizer light flashing faster or solid . it stays dormant  as it would normally. No other warning lights come on either.

Did you have to remove the left side engine cover to replace the water pump seals?
