It was a mild winter until ...a cold snap and 8" of snow in the Costal Pacific north west, left coast; today its melting; I had some satisfaction pushing slush around and stomping it to make it melt faster on the road in front of the house; decided to check into dmf see what's gong on, and my mind begins to turn to spring riding; when would I get insurance for the bike this year?

Lots goes into this decision; time I could spend riding, and namely weather; blue sky & green grass. Im a decidedly fair weather rider, you? Feel free to detail the reasoning you use  [Dolph]

Cheers D

[popcorn]...this year I'm thinking march due to the mild winter and el Nino effect ...

Usually I don't really stop... There might be a few weeks here and there.

This winter was pretty cold, with a record three snow days (really, that means three days with snow. This is AZ we're talking about.).

April! I'm in the majority! Sad part is I live in San Diego, so I could ride all year. But man it was cold this morning, and my truck has heated seats and a cup holder for my coffee. So there you have it. I will only ride under the most ideal conditions.

+1 on when the salt is gone

.... man worth there salt ... its an roman Italian saying ... so relates to an Italian bike; no?

yaaaa; I said March but it has 31 days; snow in the forecast again in the NW... 2 cm.  >:(

... and so much for el Niño! Were having record average low in NW for February 19!  Haven't been inspired to hang in the garage with DS 1K to do spring fluffing (I keep the bike as clean as possible); have had the charger on it; dusted off the front fender yesterday.

I've ridden in February and March on freak warm (i.e. 40*ish) days, with clear roads and ton of snow still on the ground. There's a treacherous amount of salt and sand on the roads then though.

Beyond that, actual regular riding commences once the spring rains clear the winter funk away (whenever that may be since it's not consistent in MN). This year it's going to be late I'm afraid, since we've had record snowfalls this winter.

I try to get 12 months per year but I just checked and my last day on 2 wheels was 1/31/19

Next day is at Thunderhill this weekend so I missed February '19 and can not officially call myself 12 months per year rider.

In my defense I live in Central Oregon and we had about 4 ft of snow over this last month.

I'm loading up the bike and heading to warmer weather.

I try to get out as soon as the Street Sweepers come through for the first time. Be that in March or April.

Yesterday was the first good ride of the year. 61 F and the gravel and salt were washed clear by recent rains.
