I finally got too old for the RR exhaust on the M900. Installed some Conti clones I picked up a couple of years ago. Which allowed me to mount the CF belly pan I’ve had gathering dust for s few years.

Decided to rock the Mandarin Ducks for the summer so I can actually use the bike as transport. While I was at it, I decided to mount the hugger. Without the bags, it was just too much yellow. (Kind I’d wish I’d have bought a CF one instead.)

Anyway, took the old girl down to the garage and rubbed on her for a while yesterday. Other than the dent in the tank from the moron that backed into it in NYC and knocked it over, it looks as good as the day I opened the boxes and unwrapped the cellophane!  applause

Are those bags waterproof?

They have waterproof covers. But then, my Monster isn’t waterproof. (At least until I build some shields to keep water spray out of the UNI pods on the FCRs. When it gets wet, it only runs on idle and full throttle! Shocked)

Are those bags waterproof?

I'm currently running a set of them, and I'm pretty sure they're not, at all.

I would describe them as a very nice 'messenger bag' that's been cleverly adapted to fit on a motorcycle.
But they're not nearly as rugged or moto-focused as typical moto gear.

I'm not really impressed by the only secure attachment method being locking them on with the key.
I'd rather have a snap latch with optional locking.

On my first few rides with them, I noticed a couple issues.

The latch on the flap is not very secure, occasionally it would release and allow the flap to whip rather violently in the windblast (I regularly ride freeway).

Additionally, the leading edge of the flap was rapidly forming a crease along the line I've drawn in the photo.
Caused by the windblast getting under the leading edge of the flap.

To combat both issues, I've fitted a 5/8" ROK strap from front to back on the external rings (rings that are for a shoulder strap I assume).



Also, the handle being attached only to the flap puts a lot of stress on the latch, which is basically only rugged enough to hold the flap down in near-static conditions.

To repeat, a very nice 'messenger bag'.

All valid criticisms, but they worked just fine for a crosscountry trip when I moved to New York. Of course, they had the waterproof covers on nearly the whole time.



These days the bags just have City duty. And mostly pleasure cruising.

They are OK for a short trip in moderate rain, more than that..., but they did come with rain covers.  Never had a problem with them in terms of mounting security on NYC goat paths or  on several trips to New Hampshire.  Nor did I have trouble with the latches.  They don't hold much, but with a tank bag,tail bag or whatever they should work for your  weekend getaway.
