Chinese knockoff steering dampers

Has anybody seen the Matris SDR knockoffs on eBay? Look like exact copies only with no mounts. After having just shelled out six bills for a real one I find the knockoffs interesting. Tempted to buy one. At $45 if it's garbage I can just toss it and it won't break the bank right?

It makes little sense to me in saving a few dollars on what is fundamentally a safety device.

Perhaps you will only know if it's garbage when you really need it, and then, at that precise time, the money saved will mean nothing.

I don't like knock offs. Someone does the R&D, then another company comes along and rips it off.

If you buy the knockoff you're supporting the thief.

Trolls love the attention. If you give it to them, they win, just like the company that you purchased the cheap part from.

That's the best I can do for an explanation.

OK that works. But I did not wind up buying the aforementioned counterfeit Matris SDR as I forgot all about it

You don't want a damper to jam up due to cheap materials or poor tolerance.
There are strong arguments for not supporting industrial piracy besides safety. You can buy pirate FCR carbs (with Keihin FCR stickers) for 25% of the price of genuine items, but Keihin did all the hard work to set the standard for performance carburettors.
