my Golden puppy was just spayed today

...and I feel horrible. Was/am very nervous about it. It was the same with Yoyo, my labradoodle. I can't help but feel terrible about removing her ability to have babies but I keep reading and reading and reading that it's the responsible thing to do, but also about how those hormones produced by the reproductive system are beneficial to overall health throughout a dog's lifespan. I spayed Yoyo at around 7 mos and she lived 5 or so years beyond her projected lifespan. Had nightmares last night. My Clément is a big deal to me, she's ~7mos and a very very strong baby. Her biceps are huge, she's jacked. She's not dimensionally big yet but damn does she weigh a ton and it's all muscle. Just buff as heck. Her name is Bunny but I call her Clément for reasons unknown. I'm weird.

How do others feel about spaying, what was your dog's age when you decided to get it done, why did you do it early or wait, etc.

I have a mutt who was the result of a purebred gal down in Tulsa hooking up with a similar breed.  7 pups out of that litter ended up in a shelter in Colorado.  They were spayed/neutered at several months old.

A purebred I had was neutered at maybe.... 6? months?  That was a long time ago but done as soon as the vet said it could be done (when his nuts dropped).   

It's the best, most responsible thing to do, IMO â€" even more so if you're not a respectable breeder in the business of maintaining a breed's integrity and bloodlines.

I collected Clément at 8:30 this morning. No idea how I'm supposed to keep her calm for two weeks so she can heal properly but I'm determined. She is very very high strung. Was so good to see her! I missed my Clément. Weird that there was another white Golden, Casper, brought in by his mama to be neutered. This is the umpteenth white Golden puppy around 7mos I've seen in the area. They appear to be everywhere!

Clément is doing very well. I am thankfully very into my career, which is sadly not something everyone can say, and still find myself eager to get home to see my puppy. I don't want to leave in the morning either. My 65lb 7 month old poopypants. Love her too much.
