I'm looking to replace my stock handle bar with a fork mounted clip on. I'm not finding any information on the OD for the top of the front forks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bike is a 2012 Monster 796 (bone stock).

Hello and welcome,

I just have to ask  ;D why not measure your fork legs? Anyway... there are long threads about this and they are easy to find (we're not FB). One key word could be "Swatt" which was a popular aftermarket manufacturer of clip on with risers. Discontinued for years. Maybe Woodcraft Tech still have theirs.

Clip ons on a 796 cause some clearance issues. You'll need to space the instruments out a little. DesmoWorld made(/make?) brackets for this. "796" and "clip ons" will be the search words here in our forum, I assume.

Thank you!!

To answer you question. I was at work looking up bars, the bike was at home and I wasn't sure. Now that I'm back I can break out the calipers and get the right measurement.

50mm?

DesmoWorld still got the spacers/relocators [thumbsup]

50mm it was. Just got them in yesterday. Started the install this morning. Clearance looks ok so far.

Not sure how to post a pic from the phone but I'll get it posted as I can.

Pictures must be hosted in, for example, postimages.org and then copy a link from there to here. Easy the third time you do it.

Which clip ons did you get?

Thanks for info on pics.

I ended up having my local shop order me a pair of universal 50mm with a 35mm riser built in to the split ring ($60). I'll have to dig the packaging out of the trash to tell you the brand, but they feel solid as all get out.

They fit nicely around the top triple. Had to take the headlight assembly off, the cable mount and reroute the lines but it wasn't too bad. Could've avoided it I think but my shops closed and I couldn't make a custom stand off for everything.  The indicators weren't to much fun either to get right.

Totally changed the way the bike rides. Bars are ~3” lower and it feels much more aggressive.
