Nah, but I did see a billowing cloud of smoke coming from Woodbury Commons on my way home. Wonder what that was?

Dude, if you live in Pa, and work in NYC...
what in the world are you doing all the way up there?

My commute is something like this...
Going across Jersey and then up is technically shorter but in reality takes longer unless you do it in the middle of the night.

my god, how long is your commute in the AM?
In the morning I take a different route to avoid tolls.
Typical morning commute if I'm going to the office, obviously differs if I'm driving straight to a job.
Leave house at 4:30am
Rt 6 --> Rt 84 --> Rt 17M --> Rt 17 --> whatever the road that heads to the Palisades is called --> Palisades North --> Bear Mountain Bridge --> windy road that needs to be repaved --> Rt 9 --> Rt 9A --> Sawmill River Parkway --> Moshulu Parkway --> Deegan --> get off at Fordham Rd/ University Ave --> head into Inwood and down to the Harlem River Drive --> FDR --> 59th St Bridge --> Long Island City at about 7am
Going home I just go over the GW and up the Palisades.
And yes I have done it on the bike but it's not really much of an alternative because I normally have to carry too much shit.
BTW, sorry 'bout the threadjack.

Just didn't want to step on toes already in this brave new world.
Sounds like a fun commute, huh?

at the cost of gas, say...130miles each way.... at 25mpg, at $4 a gal, thats $20.8 a day, x 2 times a day x 5 a week = $208 x 4 weeks a month = $832 = why dont you just get an apartment in NYC?

Add to that depreciation due to high mileage, tires, oil, etc. you could have a cheap studio apartment.

Actually at 35 mpg with gas in Montague, NJ still at $3.53, I'm still at $25 a day or so which would be $125 a week or $500 a month.
I buy tires that last me roughly 60,000 miles which is a year and the car itself costs me nothing, "just" the travel costs and maintenance.
The other potential trick up my sleeve if gas gets really ridiculous is that I probably could arrange to do a "work-at-home" day at least once a week if I have to.
As long as it's possible, I always like to go home at night 'cause my wife is a phenomenal cook and she even sleeps with me a night too. I'd have to buy someone dinner to sleep with me if I stayed in the city.
The numbers still work out quite well in my favor if you don't try to take into account my time spent traveling as a monetary thing.
Property tax bill = $488 for the year. wt:

Hey, going home to the wife throws all money considerations out the window anyway. Unless you don't like her
