I suppose it could've been all the Singhas,  [drink] but I had a sort of religeous moment when I first dived with metric gauges.
1 Atmosphere = 10 M of depth - none of this 32.8nnnn bull shit to convert

I'm really not sure how exact the equality is, but with water as a foundational element of life and metric measurements - the realization that 10M below the surface equated somehow to the Atmospheric weight at sea-level...  blew my mind.

Okay - off for another glass of 'cooking' wine... another story - maybe that'll make it in the WTF thread..

You sound like you have nitrogen bubbles in yer blood  :P
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Definitely prefer metric here.

A couple of the instruments I work with require both imperial and metric tools...such a pain having to haul both sets around the world with me. :P

"Check out the big brain on Brett! You're a smart motherf***er. That's right! The metric system."

Another vote for moving to metric-only tools. I'll be honest: I'm lazy, and fractions are boring.

Quote"The 'root cause' of the loss of the spacecraft was the failed translation of English units into metric units in a segment of ground-based, navigation-related mission software, as NASA has previously announced," said Arthur Stephenson, chairman of the Mars Climate Orbiter Mission Failure Investigation Board. "The failure review board has identified other significant factors that allowed this error to be born, and then let it linger and propagate to the point where it resulted in a major error in our understanding of the spacecraft's path as it approached Mars.

Im with sac on this one.  Way too much of the construction industry would have to change here.  Almost all building materials are based off of the Standard system and it would mess a lot of the simple arithmatic used in build stuff.  studs 16"oc 4x8 sheets of plywood, etc...

Also when I was a kid and my mother "counted to 3" and she didnt really want to hit us we got  "...1 ...2 ...2 1/2 ... 2 3/4"

+1...although I could do without inches.  I wish we just used tenths of feet instead. I used to have a tape that gave tenths/hundredths of feet instead of inches...it was great.

Civil/Dirtwork guys do.  I'm surprised that you don't strictly deal in tenths of feet.  All our civil work, grades, and utilities are all set to tenths of feet.

We do for civil/earthwork stuff. But being a tunneller, I also have a lot of structural stuff to deal with, which is all done in architectural scale and fractions of an inch.  [puke]

just keeping the framers and roofers off meth, is hard enough.....add in a lil "learn'n the metric system" into the mix..... nothing will ever get built again.
Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar kicked me out of the band..... they said I didnt fit the image they were trying to project.
