Gentlemen, you can't fight in here, this is the War Room.

There is nothing noble in being superior to some other man.  The true nobility is in being superior to your previous self. And in bacon.

As the girl in the office next to me would put it.... "See you next Tuesday."

It was in a bar... with no kids around... waitress didn't like it much though.

I found it amusing to leave 30-degree weather in Australia in December, and arrive in Chicago for 30-degree weather. [laugh]

American Currency is Metric, you understand that right? Its easy to use, learn and do math with.
Example what is 10 plus 10 ?         answer 20
What is 13/64's plus 2 and 3/16th's     answer?        Screw the answer, I 'm off for a beer! [laugh]

Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.

Having to use both metric and traditional system makes you smarter.

All that conversion in your head -- makes you better at maths.

Seriously.

Its not reflected in the math scores though because it only will affect a relatively small number of folks, such as people who do home construction (or projects) and work on their metric car/bike/etc.

A huge problem is that tools are inch.  Period.  You won't find a rotary saw blade with a metric width, or a hole saw with a metric diameter.  Just doesn't happen.

I was in Germany and went into a tool shop. Sure enough, the tools were in metric.  Then I looked closely and saw...

horrors.

they were all conversions from inch.  The hole saw was 50mm but in small print it said ("Tatsachliches Breite 50.8mm")

TWO INCH!

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Fractions are more accurate than decimals, and are much friendlier to use. If you cut a piece of metal thats 1/3 an inch, it would be much better than writing .33333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333 etc.

I think you write it like this.
.33_
Only the underscore goes under the last Number that repeats itself. The keyboard wont let me do it. Damm SAE keyboards!  [cheeky]

He Man

yes thats how you write it, but you cant input that into a calculator. you have to put 1/3.

MendoDave

Or round it at some reasonable place, such as 4 places after that it mostly meaningless. But Fractions are easier to deal with in algebra. funny how that works. well I'm off to Land Survey where Ill be dealing with Feet convinently  divided up into Tenths, Hundredths, and Thousandths.
