Uh-oh ... what's going on here?

« on: August 03, 2008, 01:33:08 AM »

So there were a few of you there yesterday to witness the transformation of the monster from within. Puberty has created one helluva ride - that was some voice break.

I have already stated that I had a headache by the time we got to the kick-off point yesterday .... and that was with the Boss riding behind me! I even had to up the NRR on my earplugs, and its not even my bike (we all know she is sweet and innocent).

The transformation of the machine has continued (and encouraged) the transformation of the rider. Luckily for my hearing she was a fair way further up the pecking order yesterday so I managed to maintain a bit of distance. Anyway as yesterday was such a critical date the job was rushed through to get her to the start line, so today it was back down to the shop to finish off those pipes.

As became obvious yesterday the Boss was starting to be overwhelmed by hay fever which clearly had the better of her for the second half of the ride. So today it was my turn ... I took the little beasty down to the shop ... and holy shit that thing is LOUD! I thought my earplugs had fallen out! My jaw was shaking and my head was vibrating in my helmet, is it possible that an exhaust note can cause harmonic resonance in your body?

Not only has the exhaust added sound but coupled with the new K&N filter that thing just loves to go - it is a completly different bike. It might just be the general titillation of my senses but I have to say it has far more urgency than my bike and just keeps revving. But it is coming off the throttle which causes the most problems and it only takes the smallest backward movement and the sphincter gets nervous as the bowels start trembling. I don't think I am good enough to ride that thing hard without the usual protection offered by my slipper clutch thingy, but goddam it was fun for a little spin today.

Matty, I can certainly see how you can ride your baby the way you do ... the 620 is an animal not to be underestimated. Jukie is not set up for me, but even with me crowded on is soooo easy & smooth to ride.

.... and by the way the guys put the meter on the bike today at the requisite 3-4 metres and they were a bit apprehensive to give us the results .... and I don't think it should be posted on here. I can only hope Jukie comes back from the shop a little quieter once they have finished with him - for my hearing, sanity and ego.

Now you see why my little 620 can still make me  Grin even with all those big bikes around.
What year is Jukie? I'm an 05 and she has the slipper clutch, I thought they came in from 04 models.

You mean that wicked new voice is gonna get tamed already!!!
I hope she doesn't loose too much of that deep growl.

Jukie is a 2002 model so no slipper (Betty is an '05 and I think I need it) and yes it has taken a while to get to the exhausts.

You mean that wicked new voice is gonna get tamed already!!!
I hope she doesn't loose too much of that deep growl.

Perhaps just a little, should remain plenty deep and growly.

BTW that photo is out of date already .... but I don't know if I can say any more.

Those Stubby pipes look wicked. Those things makes some noise as well. I was going up a hill behind Jukie and Andy and I couldn't_hear_my_own_bike  Smiley

Guys,

I'm not impressed that you are not all talking more about my pipes, now that Jukie has a deep growl. You guys have been picking on me about my standards for so long, and now you guys have all gone a bit quiet. I thought you guys would have loved the new pipes. Anyway like Betty said that has all changed so, you will have to turn up for a run to find out. But At least Melvin is having a go, and he wasn't even there.

so talk fellows
