stock mirrors vs handlebar mirrors

So im getting pretty tired of the stock mirrors and thinking about installing the handlebar mirrors but the thing is I like the field of vision afforded by the stock mirrors.  I never been on a bike that has bar-end mirrors, do they have different field of vision than the stock?  I heard that bar-end mirrors are more for the side-views whereas the stocks are for whats-behind-you-view (or is it vice versa?)

Depends on which way you've got them pointing...
I've got bar ends on mine with flat glass, pretty small field of view, but fine when you get used to it (and they do take some getting used to.) and better than the stock ones which either fell down or vibrated so much you couldn't see anything anyway.
Some bar ends come with convex mirrors so you get a wider field of view, but then you have to get used to the fact that things are closer than they appear in that type, but personally have no experience with them.

Since I couldnt see crap out of the stockers it was a no brainer for me.....don't see behind me or get bar-ends and have the ability to see behind me.

However to answer your question You can still see most  all things behind you with the bar end mirrors.  It depends on how you have them adjusted  tho  In order to see behind you directly you will have to include a little of the bike so you lose some mirror view of what could be right over your shoulder ont he road...


Just get em, they are worth it....oh and I have the Lansesplitters...well worth it for parking, garage mobility and well.... lane splitting

My convex bar ends (CRGs) have opened up a whole better world of visibility. I can't imagine using any other mirror type now. The only thing you have to get use to with bar ends is turning your head more to look at them but it only takes about 10 mins to feel natural.

I use convex bar end mirrors now. 

The field of view is much greater than stock.  I have two bar end mirrors because I do a fair bit of multi-lane travel, but even one bar end mirror has about 80-90% the field of view as TWO stock mirrors.

Try them and you will probably love them.

A friend rode my bike the other day, and he couldn't believe how awesome they work.

Bar ends do a lot better than the stockers.  I've got one side that looks a bit more behind me and the other set a for a little wider field of view on it's side.  The most important thank is to get some convex mirrors.  I had some flat glass ones and the field of view was poo... I could see behind me a mile, but only in a very narrow arc.

Mounted on a clip on bar, inside the switches an such.  YOu could see directly behind you, but they offered a very wide field of view.

I have my bike set up with only one crg on the left side and it provides a better field of view than both of the stockers.  Plus they are sexy as hell!
