the bike has to stay outside now...recommendations?

so, i posted about getting a cover already, i think either the dowco or the nelson rigg will do just fine and should keep all the water/UV rays off it. but i need to also think about real security, i.e. heavy chain/lock (i have a gate i can chain it to), disc lock (w/ alarm possibly) or normal motion alarms. the bike has a gorilla alarm on it, but it wigged out on me a couple months ago while riding and started going off...so i just pulled the plug for now. i'll plug it back in and see if i can get it to work reliably...but in the meantime, any suggestions for security from those of you that have to park the bike out in the elements? my neighborhood is going to be much more "hood" than "neighbor", so this is a pretty big factor.

i like
Xena
stuff. haven't had it tested - by pry or noticable movement of bike, but i think that's the point.
i use the disk lock at work, and the cable through wheels and frame with the lock hanging at home. Hanging it's a bit more sensitive, dweebs can't touch the cable to see what it is, much less sit on it without shaking the lock, which sets it off. good so far.
i figure pro's aren't an issue; they'll GET it if they want it, up up and away. nuisance damage or sitter-boys, retards and asshats who might try to sit it, try to roll it away, and instead dump it are dissuaded from starting, so yeah, good so far.

I got a Nelson Riggs. I can't remember the model but it was a blue top with a silver bottom and had plastic bits covering breather holes so it doesn't trap moisture. It was easy to cover the bike with but it wasn't water proof as was advertised. Also attracted a bunch of spiders if left sitting too long.

after 4 years, my dowco is showing signs of age, but it's held up well overall.
it also has that grommet thingy at the bottom to loop a cable, etc. through to keep fools from taking the cover off.
the bike's chained to a post in the garage, plus front disc, plus cover, and it's generally out of sight from the street. I think I'm ok

get a
monster
.
i though of that, actually.
i'm going to grab a cover today, and a chain/lock to chain to the gate....and will be looking at a disc lock as well from Xena, mostly for the alarm feature if the bike is moved.

Get friendly with the neighborhood folk that hang out. They're your best alarm and are less likely to steal it themselves if they know you.

Enough insurance to buy a better bike (1098R?) if it gets stolen, and sleep well at night

Dude I bought a New York Fahgettaboudit lock measuring 5'.
http://www.kryptonitelock.com/Products/ProductDetail.aspx?cid=1000&scid=1002&pid=1169
The fooker weight like 30 lbs and I look like Jackson from UFC walking with it around my neck. I thread the chain through the frame, wheel, and swingarm. Then I use a BS disc lock. And lastly I use a Dowco cover strapped tight and fit a lock through the security hole. I puposely leave the lock dangling from the underside of the Dowco cover for visibility. Hey, if they take it after all that work then they deserve it.

The plus is that he'd regard your bike as his territory, and be very good defense.
The minus is that they mark their territory with urine.

one thing to think about other than security purposes, you need to cover your seat with something. the sun and monster seats do not get along. i had one wear out within a year to showing
some
padding and by the next few months i had less cover than i did padding. and padding soaks up water much better than the cover.
