Handlebar risers for the Monster - sitting comfort
«

Been thinking about risers on the monster, but I'm really not uncomfortable where I am, my legs seem to support my weight fairly well. I wonder if adding risers could improve or actually worsen my position. It could also cause me to catch more wind.
I had risers on a Concours a few years ago, and I sat a little more upright, but sometimes I felt like the more upright position forced me to put more weight on my hands, and less supported by my lower body. I haven't had that sensation with the Monster, but I would like to sit up a little more. Am I asking for trouble? Is there a way to figure out proper balance?

Yeah, i am also planing on getting Rizoma raisers.
Question is do I want 42 or 60 mm ? And what about all the cables and pipes ?
Are they long enough ? Can i move em ?

if you're talking the old style monsters... be VERY careful about headshake. i had the old style monster city with the stock high handle bar. it was so front end light that i ended up having a tank slapper at 70mph.
if you are going to further shift the weight back on the monster think about a steering damper.

I have a 2000 750, can you elaborate further. What is headshake.
How far can we raise the bars without changing out cables?

one of the original flaws of the first monsters is the weight bias. too much rear weight. start raising the bars and you start shifting more weight back.. the front end gets light and your front can start to oscillate or worse go into a tank slapper and you lose control. and in my case and several others i've heard of including a guy at the ducati facotry i talked to... highside onto the highway breaking collarbones.

What do you call "old style"?
- everything except the 696
- pre-S*R style
- before a certain date
Please clarify.

I've got Gen-Mar risers on my 695. Not a HUGE difference in comfort, but definitely better. I don't notice any more windblast, and I've had it to 100 with no headshake. I recommend them.

+1 Got em on my 98 and no head shake or tank slappers. I ain't the most aggressive rider but I do enjoy pushing the desmo b*tch within
my limits. I also prefer long distance rides where the gen-mars make a huge difference.

I just added the Suburban Machinery Bars with the Speedymoto Risers and I'm sitting comfortable. They've completely transformed the bike.

you need bars that bring your hands closer to your body. I installed MV Brutale bars (found on MV forum) on my S4R and it worked perfectly for what I wanted. (alleviate wrist pressure and sit more upright) I did not have to buy any brake or clutch lines, the only thing I had to do is re-route the throttle cable to go through a different path, easy to do.
Note that I chose to do this because the brutale bars will rise your stock height as if you had the 1.25 bar risers and will ALSO bring you back.. and it looks cool too!! a little brut on your monster!

I fitted Renthals, medium height, and these give a much much better riding position. But, they do lighten the front end so it does tend to shake its head a bit under hard acceleration and the cables were only just long enough.

I have a 2007 S4R that uses the 22/29 fat-in-the-middle bars, and have just installed Rizoma bars (after reading other threads on this forum) and they are great. A little bit of height, but more importantly, more sweep or pullback. At first I thought it was the height (or lack of it) with the stock bars thatw as inducing pain, so I tried the Eastern Cycle risers, but they did not inspire confidence. Then I went for the SpeedyMoto Risers (thanks to stopintime for the recommendation) which are excellent.
With this combination of SpeedyMoto and Rizoma, I am using all the stock cables and lines, and the switches clear the tank just fine. Did 200 miles on a group ride at a brisk pace this past Sunday, went fast, felt good.
