I believe the black ones are the same that I have laying around from the SC, also the same calipers that came stock on the S2R800. If that is the case then they are no where near as nice and I would hold off until you could get your hands on the actual 4p2p calipers, like Teddy has.

Yeah, that's what the left side is, but finding a used right side caliper has proven quite unlikely over the years.

Hey question (I know I can search but I'm lazy)...what's the best number of teeth to go up/down when replacing the sprockets?

Are you planning on doing front or rear? If front, I would not go anything more than one down, if at all. There are lots of folks of the thought that altering the number of teeth on the front can throw off the crankshaft balance and make your motor go all wonky. As far as rear goes, you could get close to the same effect as going -1 on the front by going +3. The one possible complication with this is that you have to make sure you have enough chain length to support the change, assuming you are not replacing the chain at the same time.

there are probably an equal or greater number of folk who say 14t is the best mod ever.
so many have done it, that I imagine if it were bad, it'd be known by now
mike- R-Lo's had it on his 695, forever... you could ask him about it

Hell, I've got a 14t on the SC. Just saying that there are quite a few people (people that know a thing or two about engines) that will warn against it.

The deal with the 14T counter sprocket has not so much to deal with engine balance as it does with tightening up the turning radius for the chain. Some folks believe that a 520 or 525 chain shouldn't have to bend that tightly. I'm one of those folks. Since the sprocket is on a transmission output shaft it will in no way affect any crankshaft balance. I prefer going up 2 or 3 teeth on the rear sprocket ,and yes, a longer chain may need to be installed to make that work. That said, lots of folks run the 14 tooth front sprocket with zero problems. My friend Wally has a 14 front and a 42 (?) on the rear of his Monster 900. Definitely lost some top end and the engine buzzes more on the freeway but he can pull the front end up at will and hold it there.

Definitely what I'm going for..... He's got a 900 with stock bars. That might count a bit more with the gearing. [moto]

as long as you can find the bypass thingy for the filter, you should be good
looks like it has it's own mount for the head, and I like that it has Al fittings

I think I definitely need this...today the bike was running between 280-310 deg. Not sure if that was due to it being flogged today or other stuff...

The oil cooler will help to a degree (pun intended) but may not be as significant as you might think. Ask Teddy. He put one in his 620 a few years ago. In stop and go traffic you might only notice a 5* cooler difference or so, if that. I think I remember Teddy saying that it helped but didn't make as big a difference as he was hoping for. Of course it works better at speed but the whole air cooled engine is working better at speed as well. And yes, Teddy, I thought about the oil filter bypass piece too as soon as I didn't see it in the first picture but if you click on one of the thumbnails it shows up.

And on to a different topic...How involved/hard would it be to paint the engine...is it DIY or take to someone else?
