...so i got rear ended some time ago and my nav no workey anymore :(

the CD unit reader/brain in located in the rear of the car...since the hit, it will not keep the CD in nor read it...i push it in and it spits it back out...

The dealer of said car will not deal with insurance companies directly so ill have to pay upfront (o lot) for anything that is wrong then the insurance will pay me back (yeah right)....here is the twist

the dealer said they cant determine if it was accident related or not because they dont open the units. They verify its not working and just swap it out for a new one...no repairs (bull shit) so i most likely will have to pay dealer prices to get a unit replaced without even trying to fix it....

so loooooooooooooooooooong story short i need someone who can open the damn thing and repair it.....its going to be on my dime so... :)

thanks
luca

ps: im in LA

Navteq (the navigation company for VW) may be the same company. If so, good luck. My dealer is the same way for the Nav DVD's. They won't do anything for you, just give you an 800 number to call.

yep...Navteq only provides the CDs with the maps but has nothing to do with the actual reader...but thanks for trying :)

I used to work on Audi's and anytime the nav units went out they just went out.  Same deal, if it was bad we would just replace it.  I can't tell you how many I replaced after they were in an accident.  I would think that yours is the same.  Your probably looking at replacing it.

...i see

well, here is how it "works"...

i put the disc in and it spits it right back out...

sometimes it thinks a bit and then it spits it back out

sometimes (1 out of 20) it will keep the disc and it would work perfect till i turn off the car and restart it...

so my wishfull thinking is that the unit per se works fine but a mechanical element in it is failing to recognize the disc as good...

...i though i could bring it to someone who repairs DVDs and CDs to have them take a look at it...

no? yes?

???

...yeah, the dealer guy said he had diagnosted it ( $135 +tax) so i ask him what was wrong with it...

he said it was an internal failior.

-"i see, what kind of failor are we talking about here?"

-"electical"

-"as in a circuti short?"

-" i cant say"

-"you cant say?"

-"nope"

-"...so explane me the diagnistic process please..."

(after several minutes of me and him going back at eachother and receving nonsense answers)

-"well,
1) i took the CD out of your unit
2) i put it in a working unit
3) i verified that the CD was working in an other unit

4) i took a known working CD out of a working unit
5) i put it in your unit
6) i verified that your unit was not working"

-"and u expect me to pay you $135+tax for this operation?"

-"yes"

-"...where is your manager?"

-"...emmm...at lunch"

-" you better call her cell and ask her tome back fast 'cause im going to start shouting in 30seconds"

-"...*rebecca?...yes, its Bijorn, could you please come back at the shop?...we have a problem with a custumer...* she is opn her way"

5min later Rebecca comes out

-"hi, im the manager, i understand there is a problem"

-"you are correct, there is a problem and the problem is.....(repeat all story)...and i am not going to pay you for that."

-"well, we did a diagnostic and the founding was that there is an internal fault. Where is the problem?"

*i start raising my voice to make sure all the cusutmers on the floor wold hear"

-"the problem is that you are tying to charge me $135 for swaping a CD, keeping my car 2 days, no loner so rental ($) and not being able to determine where the fault is!"

-"ok Sir, in this case we will wave the diagnostic fee for you"

bull shit!!!

...quote for mew Nav? $2500 + labour  ;D ;D ;D and what they install is a refurbished one that probably had my same problem 2months ago  ;D ;D

I'm not sure you need a new rover, just a new rover dealer...
