So since my bike has been in the shop i have been looking to take my Waverunner out a bit more, its a 2000 Yamaha GP1200, and was wondering if anybody else in the area has one and would want to go to moriches inlet to jump the waves there?  Its really intense and the ocean is not especially safe to ride solo in case of falling off.  I went out there a bunch last year with one of my buddies but he sold his ski so i'm in a rough spot now with going to the ocean [bang].  If not i can always stick to the bay and the wakes coming off of the little boston whalers  [laugh]

I used to love jumping waverunners but I always rented, never owned.  Maybe you should sell it and get a second bike or keep it and still get a second bike  [evil]

I have seriously considered selling it with how gas prices were this summer and the lack of use i have gotten out of it.  But it has really low hours, about 65, and it is very reliable.  I know the second i sell it i am going to regret it, maybe next summer i will if gas doesn't go down, it hits the reserve in about 3 hours on average and its a 16gallon tank maybe a little less.

If i do sell it a track ready SV650 might be in my future ;D, or maybe a KLR650 for some touring

Since I'm from Jersey I usually take it to lake hoptachong (sucks because theres a speed limit) or down to the bay at seaside which is a great if its not a busy day. I have launched boats from a ramp at liberty state park in jersey city which is not as disgusting as it sounds. I havn't put my waverunner in there yet but when I'm at that ramp with a regular boat I am usually out numbered at least 3:1 by pwcs. For the last 3 years or so I have be doing all of my boating in new york bay. Its hard to say if I could make it on the waverunner all the way out to coney island area or dead horse bay, it really depends on the day. I have been out there in a 20 foot whaler on days when its been absolutely shit for small boats and 6 hours later it will be glass. Maybe you can put in somewhere near brooklyn? On a good day you will be really surprised how serene it can be right around the big island, I always wanted to do it on the waverunner.

Don't have one but if you know a place to rent for the day I'd go.

Ever tried one of those jet-powered kayaks?  They had one outside the boat expo when the moto show was in town.  A little more mellow but could be somewhat fun.  The same company also makes the jet-powered surfboard you always dreamed about as a kid.

I hope you weren`t one of the guys we used to fight w/ and throw rocks at while we were surfing at Cupsogue years ago. These crazy guys used to jump the waves right next to us. (Squids on jetskiis) We would always curse and call the coast guard on them.  A few times they would jump a wave and almost land on a surfer waiting behind it. I don`t think you are like that being that you surf but watch out anyway.

I thought they banned them from Fire Island? You need a license for them now too. It is not a stand up by chance is it? I know two guys who recently restored some stand ups. I think that is the way to go, to jump waves.

Dont worry im not that guy jumping next to surfers thats just outright dangerous.  Mine is a sit down, ie Waverunner, but its a two seater and well i barely actually sit on it you usually want to stand to absorb the swells, bumps etc.  I really want to try a stand up though they look sick.

O and i do have a license, i dont know anything bout fire island though never been out there.

That reminds me, if anyone needs a license I am running a licensing course in Hoboken on Sept. 6th with the Coast Guard.  This is a course to get the license you need in new jersey to operate any kind of boat and also the same license you need in NY to operate a waverunner (no license is needed in ny to operate a regular boat in ny). Cost is $65 which is about as cheap as it gets. It also is recognized in every other state in the U.S. Now that I think of it I'll probably throw up another thread in a week or so for everyone who isn't reading this one.
