Free Credit Report . com

They sing

They smile

They use the word "free"

They come across as wanting to help you .....the same way a friend would.

Those commercials cost plenty. If your friend is helping you for free, how do they pay for those commercials?

I'm sick and tired of the "friend" sell.

Visa and strippers dont dig you..... they only want your cash.

Is this the advertising standard elsewere in the world?
Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar kicked me out of the band..... they said I didnt fit the image they were trying to project.

I don't know what you're talking about.

Freecreditreport.com and I party together on Saturday nights.

And go to Bojangle's for chicken biscuits on Sundays.

....nope, deceeving advertisment in the UE is illigal...

classic exsample:

parmesan cheese

in the US u can call a cheese Parmesan even though it is NOT Parmigiano...why? Because the name Parmigiano is copywrited but Parmesan isnt...

same for:

mozzarella, peperone, extravirgin oil...etc. etc.

also quite interesting is how you can lable something being "italian" even though it is not made in italy...
also you can buy olives in turkey, have them crushed in turkey THEN you ship them ti italy, havem bottled in italy and for US laws, you can label the Turkish olive oil "Made in Italy" ....bull shit

The thing I found odd about U.S advertising is the sheer number of drug adverts. It seemed that ever second ad was for drugs of some sort - anti-depressants, adhd medication, pain killers, heart medication - a never ending stream.   ???

freecreditreport.com is a total ripoff. They make you sign up for their other services in order to get the "free" credit report.

The real site for getting your credit reports for free (by law you are allowed to periodically get your credit report for free, but how often varies from state to state) is annualcreditreport.com

MA law allows me to get my credit reports for each of the 3 reporting agencies annually, so I set reminders in my calendar to check 1 of the 3 every 4 months and rotate through them, that way I get my report every 4 months instead of every 12  [thumbsup]

the USA has some pretty liberal 'standards' for truth in advertising. I work in the industry and get a laugh out of shops like 'Mad Men' where they are almost encouraged to lie about a product to sell it... you don't go quite that far anymore but sometimes push the boundaries a lot.

although in Japan i saw a lot of ads for bust enlarging creme... that can't be real or everyone would have some in the medicine chest.

here is a little film a colleague of mine, Tim Hamilton made about the industry, it's good for a laugh. (he directs TV commercials)

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here, this is the War Room.

There is nothing noble in being superior to some other man.  The true nobility is in being superior to your previous self. And in bacon.

Yeah, the FDA has gotten more and more lax over time in its guidelines for direct-to-consumer pharmaceutical advertising.

Of course, the advertising to doctors isn't much better...lots of wining and dining, freebies, etc. [roll]

its a direct result of the aging population. the baby boomers are all starting to need the geriatric drugs. i was going to say  that the same population was also somewhat more affluent, but not sure that matters to the question at hand.

that and all the folks who need a shrink to tell them that they are make the beast with two backsered up in the head. the advertising tells them which drugs to ask for.
If you drive the nicest car in the neighborhood, work in a cash business, and don't pay taxes, you're either a preacher or a drug dealer...

Doctor Woodrow

Our population as a whole has been taught that the way to cure something is to cover it up with a pill. If you can't see or feel the side effects (from the disease, or whatever) then you must be fine right? Wrong, you still have a problem, but you just aren't showing the symptoms. Example, my old boss had heart problems, he was on medication for years, then he got on a strict controlled diet, lost the 120 lbs of extra weight he was carrying around, and viola' no more heart problems.
If we teach the general public how to SOLVE their problems instead of covering them up, then we will be much better off. Everyone is being taught that their is a pill out there that will fix each of their problems, this is not true.

Okay, okay, I am now going to get off of my Chiropractic Student soapbox, please don't yell at me.
