So I got the repair estimate from SS today...$6300...so I'm pretty f'ing sure that StateFarm will hav the bike totalled...$6300!?!?!? sigh...
And in other news all the parts I ordered for the Daytona finally arrived...

[bang]

I bet you that any part with so much as a scratch on it is being listed as a replacement item.  I didn't take a detailed inventory up there on the hill but from what I saw I'd say it could be fixed for less than $1500.00. This is just internet trash talk now mind you.

Are you going to be able to walk away clean (apart from the aftermarket goodies you bought) or is this about to hurt you even more?

Yeah...I owe nothing on the bike. Right now I'm more pissed at all the parts I have.  If it's just cosmetic stuff I might think about buying it from SF...we shall see

Sounds kinda fishy, unless there's engine or frame damage...I would ask to see an itemized invoice of what they say needs to be done to make the bike right...

Seems big fishy!!  Definitely request the itemized list of all parts recommended to be replaced.  As Rick stated, from looking at it just after the crash, I would say only the shifter lever, the mirror, the tank and the turn indicator needed replacing.  The rest looked to be low grade cosmetic stuff that could be ignored if need be.

whackie

yeah sounds like inside job. i often wonder if they have someone lined up the buy it on auction.

Wouldn't surprise me when you consider how just about everything from business to politics seems to be dominated by just a few families here.

Well I just spoke to the SF rep and he said it's definitely a total loss...I asked about buying it back and it turns out that according to Hawaii law, only an authorized shop is allowed to work on a salvaged bike...so if I wanted to buy it I would have to pay $2500 and only SS would be allowed to fix it...
He also said that SS is one of the shops that has put in a bid to buy it...so basically they can say it'll take a crapload to fix and then get to buy it for cheap...
Lame...and crooked

Crooked as hell!! Did you ask which one of the guys at SS the insurance rep is related to?  There is no way in hell that bike had enough damage to it for it to be totaled.  What a crock of shit!!

hadesducati848

did you get the itemized list of all that needs replaced?
it is so much easier to get forgiveness then it will ever be to get permission.

What about this angle? It is your bike, you own it. The only way the insurance company gets it is if you put in a claim to have it fixed and they have to pay for it and then they call it a total loss. Well, what if you don't have them fix it? That is you don't claim it or stop the claim and just fix it yourself out of your own pocket? See, it's only their bike once you agree to total it and then basically sell it to them for whatever price they deem it's worth.

If the insurance company is going to total the bike, what's the payoff to you?...anything close to what you paid for it?...are you going to be able to get another bike of comparable value to the 675 when you bought it (plus tax, etc.)?

i'm also wondering if it's part of the insurance company you have. say if the kbb value compared to the cost has X amt of gap then it's considered a total. the X could be bigger for some companies.

found this on the ducati spot. 1198S w/ 14k damage that wasn't totaled by SS. from the dates it look like it was in late april. by the end of the thread he says they're replacing this frame.

Where is the vpc and what time do you need transport?

VPC is down on Sand Island.  The apt is around 0900.  Not sure how long it takes to go through the process though...
