The period of time that your bike is ellidgble for tank replacement was actually shortened (significantly so) under the settlement.  DNA had been replacing tanks at no cost regardless of how old the bike was, how many tanks had previously been replaced or how many owners the bike had been through.  Now, the stopwatch starts ticking as soon as you have a tank replaced. The new tank is warranties for under a year (six months if memory is correct) and you only get one swap.  You may or may not get a smaller tank as part of that swap.  From there, they'll try to install different mounting hardware that is simply designed to allow for a greater amount of swelling.  Overall, the settlement screwed Ducati owners, nothing more.

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw that—it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.

So in essence, coat your new replacement tanks.

I could buy an aluminum tank for my 09 848 if I really wanted to and don't think I haven't thought about it.  If they had decided against getting me a new tank for free that's what I would have done too.  The top of the line models always get the most good stuff.   Grin  Aluminum tanks came standard on the 1098R, the 1198S Corsa and the 1198SP.

Overall, the settlement screwed Ducati owners, nothing more.

That outcome is typical for lots of class action suits.  Prior to the suit Ducati was giving out tanks at their discretion which was good for those folks who got tanks and not so good for those that didn't. When discretion is removed legally then the lawyers have to find a way to make it work for the whole population and that ends up creating an odd mix of not quite a good win and and weird restrictions where you can still lose.  ( Which is why we should never elect lawyers to public office ) That is what happened with BMW and the E46 Coupe rear subframe mounts.  It mostly only affected coupes but the lawyers included all the models and then wound up with a settlement whereby if you took your car in for a free inspection in a certain defined time frame and a problem was found then it was fixed for free even if the car was out of warranty. Now the time limit is over and if anyone has a problem then BMW is off the hook and everything is out of pocket for the owner.

The weekend is in a high flux state for me......... the Hawaii chapter BMW CCA is having a tech session this morning at our shop ---- I have a monthly physical therapy this afternoon ---- I have engines that have to come apart ( and it looks like nothing will get done today, Saturday because of the former )  -- at least one engine has to be done this weekend to keep the boss happy about me not having motorcycle parts cluttering the shop.  Might have to not go on the Sunday ride in order to make that happen.   Sad popcorn

You said it. It took me two tries to leave the house this morning.  When I got around the corner on the second try all of Kailua / Kaneohe was covered by dark gray rain. That did it. Came into town with the car to work on bike engines.   waytogo  Met up with a wet Jing over at SB for a cup of coffee before heading to the shop.
