What if after putting all the stock parts back on the knock clunk noise goes away??
Then that's a good thing since it's driving me nuts!
Took it in to the dealer yesterday and after a cursory look see (my opinion) the tech blamed it on the Koni inserts, said they were rattling around in the strut housings causing the noise.
Don't see how this is possible since the installer had to use a block of wood and a BFH to get the inserts into the housing, plus they are anchored at the strut bottoms with bolts torqued to like 50 ft/lbs
and
we checked them last week and all was secure... I told them this and they refused any further diagnosis with the non-stock suspension parts on the car. Got the feeling they really didn't want to do a thorough check of the suspension.
So the plan is to borrow a couple of OE struts from a racing friend and see if the noise goes away and if it doesn't I will return the car to the dealer and ask them to check again...after I remove the rear Konis, polyurethane steering rack bushings* and short shifter, then the car will be stock as stock can get.
*note: noise was present before these were installed.
Either way, I'll probably be looking for a different car...maybe a 2015 228i with the Track Package, nah, it doesn't have a dipstick...

Damn. Sorry you're having such issues with the Scooby Gene.
And on a different note, has anyone seen my old S2K running around down there? I miss that car…

I hardly ever, if not never, saw that car so I'd never know if it went by. I don't even remember the BMW! ( much )

You saw it, as you did a safety on it twice.

Looks like a shower dodger tomorrow, especially in the morning as moisture from an old front pushes through...guess it's wait and see...

One of the better days for sure. Great weather & traffic was tolerable. Even got a clear shot at the Stadium Off Ramp. First time in over two months, maybe three months. Even got clear shots at the Mililani off ram and on ramp, clear shot at Wyllie St. off ramp and two clear shots at the Pali 180. Doesn't get much better.
