Good route to the Catskills?

Hey all - can anyone recommend a fun way to get up to the Kingston, NY area? I have to attend a wedding up there this weekend and was looking at taking the Palisades to 9W all the way up the Hudson. Is that a good road? Any other recommendations? I might also take the Taconic up there and cut over somewhere (love that road).

I'll be leaving the city around noon on Friday if anyone feels like taking a ride.

Thanks!

morrisoto,

How big a detour are you willing to take?
You could take Palisades (scenic, but lot of police) to Sloatsburg then take 7 Lakes Drive (scenic, but lots of police) north through Bear Mt.
After Bear Mt., you can either:
   -take 218N to Cornwall
-cross Bear Mt. Bridge and take US 202 to Cordlandt then pick up 21N near Putnam Valley, hang a left at Kent to 301 W ending in Cold Springs
From Cornwall/Cold Spring I don't know anything good until US 44 near Lloyd Town, Old Post road by Esopus, and 6a by New Paltz

following Pakhan's lead, if you have the time I would tweak it for this possibility as well only difference is you're on a few back roads for longer.

fun routes posted  [thumbsup]

If you decide to ride IG's route and want to stop and eat along the way, you may want to stop here http://www.loughransirishpub.com/ in Salisbury Mills
The DESMO BBQ catering was provded by them and I must say, the food was very good.

Thanks IG/Pakhan--I'm heading up to ECS to drop off my bike for service and I'll be using your routes for that too...

FWIW, Peekamoose is closed for the season. CR2 & 3 are freshly oiled and chipped making them a lot less fun.

There are many other options out there, especially if your willing to travel out of state.  ;)

Without being too ridiculous, here's a more direct route that includes some really fun roads: http://tinyurl.com/6l3uqx

If you want to do a 7 hour ride to get there, I can suggest some other stuff.
