Just came back from the Bear Mtn car show with a buddy.

Dark, riding towards the PIP south from the Perkins drive. BANG!

HUGE pot hole right under the bike - of course it was dark out - so I could not and dared not hit it mid swerve, I hit it straight on BOOM!

Flattened the tire, bent the rim. Not sure about the forks - but thats what the dealer is for.
Anyway - I relied on  friend I ride with who I knew had a truck and ramp to bring me and my bike home.

Good news he was home.

But of course he wants nothing from me - but I feel compelled to get something even a token for him.

What would be a good gesture to a fellow rider - a personal gift, cash, a hearty thank you?

I have tried to hand over cash- he would hear nothing about it.

Also - anyone know of a good towing service in the NY metro area - 24 hours etc. AAA does not do motorcycles!!!

wow man. you didnt go down? Got some luck on your side tonight bro.

As far as offering money, that is very offensive in some cultures (mine) A good gesture aside from money, would be a hearty thank you, and a good day spent riding, take him out to lunch and pay for his gas. Or you can get him something for his bike that hes always wanted, nothing to expensive where he will feel overly rewarded, but not too cheap where hes gonna think you felt like you had to give him something but didnt want to.

As for towing, you can always call ducati towing and tell them your willing to pay.

Good to hear you are alright though. Perhaps you can sue NY State for the repair of your rim and force them to fix it. Theres probably other riders who have been through the same thing on that exact same hole.

Glad you are OK!

How to reward a good Samaritan is a difficult question.  When I help someone I want no reward beyond a sincere thank you.  Maybe "pass it forward"?

As far as towing goes, I'm sure your dealer has someone who tows for them.  If the wheel is damaged beyond repair, you could buy a new wheel and tire and do it yourself.  Do file with whomever is responsible for road maintenance there.  You may collect for damages.  NYC reimbursed us for two wheels and tires on her car.

Man!  That sucks about the pothole and bent rims.  Sorry to hear it.  On getting your buddy back:  He is probably a true friend and just happy to help out.  However, I typically would take said friend out for dinner and drinks (w/out mentioning paying back) and insist on pick up the tab at the end as gratitude.  They'll typically say "You don't have to" and I usually respond with "I know, but I want to."

glad your ok and it's only a bent rim.  As for your friend buy him a drink, give a big thank you, and make sure your there for him when he needs you.

There are a lot of 24hr towing services out there, you can also try craigslist.  I have seen affordable MC towing services but can't vouch for any.

Got the dealer coming today to pick her up, get a new wheel, tire, check forks, and bearings.

I should be back next weekend.

I am going to get a pic of that crater and write the local town.

I got my buddy a gift certificate for a loal bike shop (he's an HD guy)
