I went to take a look at this bike in NYC...   the pics in the ad are poor quality, most likely on purpose.  The thing is a total rat bike; rust all over the frame, mismatched parts, questionable ownership history and maintenance, dents, scratches, loose wires...  but to be fair, it did start right up and seemed to run okay.  I wouldn't pay more than $2500 for it, and that's just for the parts.

Just in case anyone here is looking at it like I was...

i thought it had some potential... but after seeing it in person, 2-2.5k at the most.  the owner told me he paid 3k for it last year, and promptly removed the best bits for his 900ss, including ohlins rear and wheels plus cast iron rotors.  4k or more for that thing is criminal...

You can't feel bad for the owner while there are still idiots out there willing to pay for such a travesty.

He said in the auction that he removed the Ohlins cause it was leaking...

But just think of all those people that ask you how expensive your bikes are, they are going to think a "DUCATI" at that price is a steal!!

I like how he references a thread on ducati.ms about how to decode a VIN, and the example they use in that thread doesn't even follow their "decoding" parameters.  laughingdp

Here's what I know:

ZDM1 - Most Ducs.
ZDM3 - Homologation bikes, like my 996SPS
ZDMH - Race bikes.

I also like how one of the pictures has different body work  Roll Eyes

He's including the 851 body work as well...  I think that's the one odd picture.

But yeah, very sketchy...   that 888 SP3 claim was shot down pretty quickly.

It's also worth mentioning that it's stored outside.  In NYC.

I once saw a monster on Ebay that had been 'stripped of all unneccessary parts to make it as naked as possible. There were no lights/dash/instruments, no trun signals, no liscense plate bracket or light, no fenders(front or back), no front sprocket cover or clutch cover, and believe it or not, no front brakes at all!

I asked the owner about certain things, like the speedo being neccessary for road use (they claimed the bike was legal. All I got was a smarmy response back about parts missing that I hadn't noticed, like the airbox and filter.

I say it was stripped of all quickly sellable parts and they were trying to get WAAAAYYY too much for it. I did a little pricing out, and replacement OEM parts came to over $3000 when I stopped about halfway through the list of obviously missing stuff. In the end somebody paid about $5000 for it. OUCH!!!
