I've tried linking to pics on Blogger and Flickr and neither way is working.  I click the picture button and paste the url between the img tags just like normal, but no dice.  Am I doing somethng wrong?

Im having trouble getting pics from my desktop to go in my posts Do I need to have a Flicker account now?

Yes Mendo, we're not hosting pictures or attachments here.  You'll need to sign up with flickr/photobucket/etc.  Msincredible has some nice step by step directions up for both in this thread.

www.tinypic.com is a quik and easy FREE, no need to sign up way to upload pix of varying sizes to a hosting server... Check it out; it's a no-brainer...
