It's wet?  Then I'm sorry, but there appears to be a typo.  You mispelled the name at the top of hte board.  It should read "Chris Vermeulen", not "Anthony West."  You can find Westy back in 28th place

Dani's first race weekend with Bridgestones and the track is kinda dry and kinda wet?  No wonder he's three seconds off the pace.

It's raining fairly heavily here in Chicago right now (ORD) so we'll see if it clears up for qualifying...

So far this Indy GP has been a real disappointment.  The track just doesn't seem very interesting, especially in the wet.  Nice to have a race at the brickyard for sure, but so far I've just been bored.

it'll be kind of a bummer if the whole weekend rains like they say.. no one will really know who goes well on that track til next year.

I don't have the times 'cause I just watched it and they aren't posted yet, but:

1.  Rossi
2.  Stoner
3.  Lorenzo
4.  Hayden
5.  Spies

can't remember the rest, but DePuniet is up there and Edwards is too.

Hooray for Hayden and Spies tho.  I really want Hayden to beat the midget and I really want Spies to beat Hans Moleman and Grandpa.

Yes, Ike is supposed to be in town tomorrow, meaning the race will likely be taking place in a deluge of rain.

So, possible earlier start time, or even cancellation of the race tomorrow if the rain is too heavy.  What a cluster make the beast with two backs that would be for all the people that went out there.

weird experience flying in here yesterday and having the plane be seemingly filled with GP fans.  same with the hotel, much moreso.  the Rizla team is in my hotel, as well as a 125 team, a bunch of journalists, etc..  every person in the bar last night was talking bikes and ignoring the football on tv.. lol

That WAS a great race.  The conditions they were racing in were incredible.  I really thought Spies coulda taken Stoner and Dovi give a few more laps, but I was still incredibly happy with the results all across the board.

I'm REALLY hoping that this opens the eyes of some GP execs and gets Spies his damn ride for next year.

BTW, the 250 race was cancelled due to force majeure.

Nicky showing new teammate Stoner how it's done.  Rossi on his tail providing a lot of pressure and the Kentucky Kid was cool as ice.  No Rossi mind-make the beast with two backs for Hayden.  Too bad it dried up for a bit and ate up his Michelins.

Rossi is still the man.  Loved watching him and Nicky run away with it.

Good to see Lorenzo back up front.  Glad to see Spies making a run for Stoner too.  Good race.

Best of all Pedrobot and his 'stones were nowhere to be seen.

Me likey that race.  Hayden is soooo much better when there is limited traction.  I was loving it when he squared off turns or slide both wheels from the apex and drifted on out to the rumble strips.  I *really* hope he clicks with the Duc next year.

Casey looked pissed at the end of the race.  Wassup wit dat?

Someone better give Spies a damn ride.  I wanna see Elbowz in the dry on a bike that he's had some time with.  Mebbe he'll be good, mebbe he'll just be ok, mebbe he'll be awesome.  But I really wanna see what happens.

Why does that surprise you?

Not sure exactly.  He didn't have the pace to hang with Rossi and Hayden, so he shoulda been ok to with that result.  And it's not like he got 9th or anything.  He picked up valuable points on Pedrosa and he's already said that he doesn't expect to catch Rossi for the title.  <shrug>  Whatever.  He's allowed.  I thought he had a fine, albeit not spectular race.

GODDAMIT!  Why does everyone (on here and on the WERA BBS) get pissed at that?  That IS how it's pronounced.   I also don't know why people are surprised by the pronunciation, you had to have heard it 1000x on the regular speed/motogp.com broadcasts at some point right?

Except for the fact that he's incorrect about it.

If any of you have a motogp.com subscription, please feel free to watch any of the prior races and you'll hear it pronounced Loren-tho about 1 trillion times.  Not that it doesn't ever get mispronounced, but I'm just surprised that so many people (not only here) have torn into the announcers for mispronouncing it when in fact they were correct.

Haha indeed.

Anyhow, at the end of the day, I think that Indianapolis as a city and IMS as a venue really represented the US well and it looks like something that will be very positive for the exposure of MotoGP and motorcycle racing in general, so this is a great thing.

I'm sure we'll get some reports from the peeps who were out there, but all in all I think it went pretty well considering Ike was torturing the riders throughout the race(s).

They need to put some speakers in the infield.  If you were not in Ducati Island you could hardly hear the announcers.  But all in all a great event.  The staff and local police did an incredible job moving traffic to boot,  I'm excited to be going again next year.
The drive up to Wi sucked though I94 was flooded so they "routed" the traffic.  7.25 hours later I was done with what should have been an easy 5 hour trip.  But from the looks of it, and what I heard at the gas station the traffic going south was taking an extra 4 hours to route.

That sounds pretty great, especially considering mother nature.  The IMS peeps really know how to handle their shit.  They had kiosks in the airport handing out info and red bulls, they had the street signs, they had promotion everywhere. It also seems that since they've dealt with enormous crowds tons of times, they handled the traffic well (which is something Laguna is only now learning how to do).

I really hope I can make it out there next year, it sounds great and it seems like it has the infrastructure to handle such an event.  [thumbsup]

speed uses the dorna-employeed announcers. are you sure you're not thinking of fox?

nick pronounces the "z", mark swaps back and forth.

Easy buddy. You're wrong.  Speed uses the motogp.com broadcasters, but thanks for playing  [thumbsup]

Would the two of you make up your make the beast with two backsing minds? [cheeky]

Daryl ranted that he didn't understand why people were jumping on he NBC guy.  I gave a possible reason.  *I* didn't jump on the NBC guy.  I didn't say SPEED *ALWAYS* mispronounces it.  I simply stated that I've observed while watching SPEED's coverage all year that they mispronounce it at times, and call him by his first name at other times.

I beg to differ.

Leaving from the infield, you had no choice but to take a left onto 16th.

Then all of the cross streets were blocked-off for a couple of miles, keeping you from turning to double back.

With no signage to give any indication of how to get back to the west, it took forever winding through side streets to get back to my hotel.

IMS is one of the premier, if not the nicest racing facilities in the world. Everything there is top notch.

I thought they even did well considering mother nature wasn't too friendly..........

Must be something about inaugural races at IMS the past two times.

Yeah - what is it with that track's layout?  OK, I wasn't there and have only seen the diagrams but it looks unimaginatively tyro.....Was there a theory there or did they route it through 'available space' around the golf course.....perhaps, for 2009, they'll just lay out a course in midtown Manhattan so it'll be closer to the eastern half of the US population....

I think Casey actually learned something from his failures earlier this year.  His candor about him not having confidence and putting his performance issues on himself was refreshing.  I'm not lining up to hop on his bandwagon, but it was nice to see that side of him at least.

What was up with Ralph and Kevin at the very beginning of the broadcast. Didnt they realize they were on wide screen 16:9 hi def? They were standing way too close together face to face. They looked like they were gonna start making out at any second. Even my wife thought it was a bit ghey. I think Kevin got lessons on how to talk on TV. What happened to #52?

he missed T1 in about lap 5 or 6.. there was paved run-off that took him out to the oval so he didn't go down.

They need to put some speakers in the infield.  If you were not in Ducati Island you could hardly hear the announcers.

could hear 'em fine from where i was... ;)

edit: and actually, come to think of it, that was not such a good thing.  greg white as infield announcer is 10x worse than greg white as tv announcer.  PAINFUL.

coming in, yes.  leaving, that was not my experience.

you have to understand all the ppl sitting in the paddock area were leaving going 16th west
this i done this way so traffic get distributed on I465, a bit of all direction ,if they would have let us go west coming from the IMS underpass we would have been sitting in a traffic jam for hrs.

Q: Question for Valentino. There's been very many disappointed girls because you said if you won the race you were going to run naked down the home straight.

HAYDEN: Yes, yes, I do remember, also. (Laughter)

Q: I just wonder what happened after that Thursday comment.

ROSSI: The idea was from Colin (Edwards), I remember. (Laughter) And Friday night they say to me, and they say maybe it's better for everybody that if I win my umbrella girl get naked on the straight. (Laughter)

MODERATOR: Thank you. Third place, ladies and gentlemen, his second podium in succession, Jorge Lorenzo. Jorge, first time you've been on the podium in the wet your whole career.

JORGE LORENZO: Yeah, it is true. It is true because also in the Spanish Championship I haven't got any podium, European Championship, also, no podium in the rain. And I think in the Balioto Championship, also, no podium. (Laughter)

I was so, personally I didn't want to race before the race because I was so safe in my motor home and so hot with Hector that I thought I prefer not to race.

I agree, leaving got me completely screwed up.  If I would have just waited inside the track for 60 minutes, I could have got back to my campground much much easier.

[evil]

Hmmm....schedule a race during hurricane season and then wonder why it rained....

You must not know Indy or the Midwest very well.  The layout is what it is, there is limited space due to it being INSIDE the oval.

And typically, we do not get affected by hurricanes, we are 1500+ miles away from Ocean.  If no rain is a requirement for a booking date, you would have to pick February, that is probably the only month it doesn't rain around here.

***

Overall, I had a great time.  Mario did a great job with the Project Mugello and HH crowd.  Ducati did a A+ job on the DOC area.  Tent camping next to the track was a fricking riot, and totally made up for riding ~20 hours in rain and wind over the weekend.  I plan to go back next year, and meet up with the guys we camped next to.

Being that the speedway is located in a neighborhood and typically accommodates crowds up to 450,000 people, they have their routes down pretty good.

you have to understand all of the parking lots drain towards a different exit.

You either go towards 465 on the West, 65 to the East (via 16th street and 30th street exits), or towards 38th on the north via Georgetown Road.

They clothes all N-S bound streets on 16th street to prevent people from clogging up neighborhood roads and screwing up with the general flow of traffic from the surrounding lots.

The best way to leave the Speedway..............wait around. Don't leave quickly. Hang out and then leave.

We left about 2 hours after the GP Race and sat in no traffic.

Riding a lap was very cool. It would have been even better without a tank bag and tail bag.

It is amazing, how fast things happen on it even at the 25-50mph I was doing.  The braking markers must move at light speed for the pros.  The surface was very smooth, and I didn't feel any major transitions between parts of the track.  The correct lines though could have been confusing for the riders.  Even with IMS workers pointing the way to go, there were so many alternate routes (oval versus road turns, pit lanes, maintenance lanes, track entrances and exits, etc) near the turns, that it would have been easy to go off course or focus on the wrong line.

It will take an act of god to keep me away next year, the whole trip was absolutely amazing, and Karma treated us very, very, very, very well.
