So I walk my girlfriend out to her truck this morning like I do every morning when she goes to work, and I see my bike laying over on its right side. My truck was parked on the bike's left side, so I know that no vehicle could have hit it on that side, causing it to fall on its right side... The cover was still on it. My girlfriend tells me to call the police just to have it on record and pulls off to go to work.
Here's where it gets really fun.
She calls me right after I get off the phone with the police to tell me her truck stalled on her on the side of the interstate and she can't get it started. So I call the police back and tell them I have to go pick her up and I'll be right back. I get in my truck and don't even get out of the apartment complex and my truck quits running and I can't get it started again. I do a Sunday night fill-up on both trucks, so I know both trucks were running fine last night.
Nice.
I call the police back and tell them about the both of our trucks coincidentally quit running at the same time. I go back to where my truck was parked and there's fluid all over the ground under where my filler tube was. Go to where my girlfriend's truck was parked and the same thing.
The police get there and I file a report on both trucks and the bike. The officer was great and he called up another officer to go pick up my girlfriend. I showed him the pictures on my camera that I had taken to prove that my truck was parked right next to it. He agreed someone knocked it over intentionally. He looks at the fluid in both parking spots and says that it's oil. We pick the bike up, take the cover off and look at it. The only damage was a broken bar end mirror and a slightly bent brake lever. The bike starts and runs fine.
So, my girlfriend can't go to work, I can't go to work, and some SOB (we have a good idea of who it was) has a grudge against us. Now we have to get both trucks towed, drained, and cleaned out. Both trucks and the bike are fully insured, so it's a matter of inconvenience.
To quote the officer "What a pregnant dog move to do to someone."
Bollocks. >:(
Whoever did this needs a huge karmic pregnant dog-slap. Here's hoping they spontaneously combust.
that sucks... >:(
i'm wondering why someone would do that to you and the gf...
Sucks
Sugar in the gas? Look around the fill area.
Nope. OIL in the gas. Hopefully not as hard to clean out.
Must have been a lot of it...
that sucks
Oh, it's all over the place. Don't know why I didn't notice it right away other than it was under the truck and I was freaking out about my bike.
oil in the gas can fry your fuel pump and injectors if you have an efi truck. high pressure pump + high viscosity liquid = bad.
fuel line won't be hurt nor the engine itself if it actually made it into the engine. in fact, that's the best thing for them to have put in it, lots of sugar would have been worse.
carbie engine will fare better with a low pressure fuel pump. carb will need to be blown out with solvent.
hope you find him and ream him with a lead pipe.
So who did you piss in the pool lately ?
Was your garden party loud enough to entertain the neighborhood 10 blocks away.
Are you filing a law suit over some picket fences ?
Is your gf maybe someones ex-gf ? just...recently ?
Thats a move planed and executed by someone who knows what to do and to whom.
And sorry to hear about the bike..
I like hte officers comment
Keep us informed if they catch the jerk(s) and if it was the person you think it is.
Man, does that ever suck! Ducatizzzz is correct about the possibility of pump and injector damage. Even if the trucks seem to run well, have them check fuel pump pressure and injector spray pattern before settling with insurance. Also check for catalytic converter efficiency. Cats do not like oil. Change the fuel filter too, it holds quite a large quantity of fuel
Oh, we're pretty sure it's a jealous ex-boyfriend, but from almost a YEAR ago. It's not like she cheated on him with me or anything like that. I came along a couple months after they broke up. But yeah, it was definitely a planned event.
Having the trucks towed in to a shop nearby and going to have them go over everything from the tank to the exhaust. Insurance is covering everything on both trucks including a rental for her. Not going to bother on the bike, just a broken mirror.
You might want to take some precautions as well in case the SOB tries something else! locking gas caps would be a start and if possible maybe a camera to catch the bast@rd, or one of those perimeter alarm systems. Messing with a persons ride is about as low as you can go in my book.
Yeah, call homeland security and the NRA to turn your home into a fortress ... live in fear !
Bullshit...spend the cash on a trip with your lady and feel good [wine]
And tell give us the details of that nice insurance...thats great they cover all this...
Locked fuel caps on the other hand are standard where I live...because of little gnomes sucking it out and having parties all night [drink]
Man, that is some seriously planned shit. Someone who has thought of all that (im surpise you dont have a locking gas cap i thought thye came standard!) probably wants to do something again. Id be on alert for a while. Shotgun with Beanbags and rock salt ready. or if no shotty, its baseball bat, duct tape and smelly fart in a can.
If you have a garage, parking inside might sove this problem.
What was that about LOUD pipes ;D ;D
No garage... on the waiting list for one.

if you got oil into the cat, then you probably have a few thousand $ other damage as well. that's a good place to start actually, the exhaust. if you have no significant oil in the tail pipe, work your way up.
most likely, GF's truck died because injectors got plugged. may be cleanable, might need replacment.

if you know it's him, there are plenty of ways to deal with it without calling up a civil rights organization like the NRA
locking gas caps are mandatory though. surprised you don't have one, but then again, i don't on my truck (1986 model)
I have an 2006 Xterra (offroad which is far from base model) and it does not have a locking gas cap or fuel door (and it does not lock when the car is locked).

No go on the duct tape. If you restrain someone against their will even if it is in self defense and for only a few secs it can be bad for you. Ask me how I know [bang] [bang] [bang] [bang]
Messing w/ somebody's vehicle is just shitty, sorry to hear about it.
Also, my 1999 Dakota had no locking gas cap/door, same with my '04 Neon, no lock
Now that i think of it there isn't a lock on my sisters Grand Am, pops Blazer, or Moms Saturn, all cars are newer than 2002, wonder if the domestic auto makers are slow to catch on?
Sorry to hear. >:(

For starters... [evil]
Sorry to hear about this, definantly someone that needs multiple punches to the bag
Locking gas caps are easily available from your local auto parts or other auto supply store and can cover this angle. Obviously, it's taken some time to do. Don't make it known to the dude you think it is, but make sure you keep an eye on his whereabouts. A camera of some sort if possible is your best thing now. I'm sure if you catch him doing something again your insurance company would LOVE to have a word with him regarding what they're spending on cleaning up your current mess.

Yeah, I'm looking into a wi-fi camera system. But that's only going to work if I get rock star parking near the apartment. We're keeping an eye out and so are our neighbors. The maintenance guys are on the lookout, too.
Unfortunately, the dealer doesn't make a locking gas cap for my truck. The boards I checked on aftermarket caps said they're hit or miss as far as being properly vented or getting error codes. Going to get one anyway and try it out.
Haven't even contacted the person we suspect. Give him enough rope and he'll hang himself.

Get a 5 or 6 gallon gas can, a bit used looking is best. Mix copious quantities of sugar and gasoline in this can. Leave openly in back of truck.
Guaranteed he will nab it. He will subsequently be tied up fixing his shite and leave yours alone.
I did this once long long ago (mid 70's gas crisis!) and had the satisfaction of seeing the SOB's hood open shortly thereafter!
I know, I am a bad man......

+1. How do you know? I dont care what the cop will try to say to me, if someone tried to make the beast with two backs with me and i had a chance to restrain him with freaking reinforced kevlar floss id do it. Its a matter of life vs law, life takes priority.
but in a situation like this, the duct tape is just for fun. :D
but seriously, how do you know? ???

Crazy ex tore up all my gear, assaulted me, pulled a knife on me, and then tried to kill herself. I tried to keep her from hurting herself and me. for a full 30 secs.
I'm the one standing trial for unlawful restraint. [bang] [bang] [bang]

"extenuating circumstances" and "self defense"
does your attorney know those? [coffee]
edit: i missed the part about duck tape being involved -- not really a smart choice there...

Yup. But the DA is on some crusade against female abuse. Lawyer is surprised she even got a judge to agree to hear the case.

Nothing I hate more than getting caught unfairly in the middle of some complete waste of space's personal crusade against something they don't even understand.
I know a guy who was in essentially the same situation as you are in, was trying to hold the pregnant dog down as she was trying to stab him and cut her wrists. The cops got called because she was screaming like a c*nt and they kicked his door down, beat him mercilessly AFTER he was handcuffed on the ground with their nightsticks and then he got thrown in jail for attempted rape.
In trial, he was luckily found not guilty. The cops had to "apologize" for excessive force. I'm not kidding, that was their punishment, an APOLOGY. They didn't even have to sit in the corner or go to bed without dessert. He still has permanent injuries to his knee from when they dragged him unconcious and handcuffed down the stairs of the apartment complex.
To the OP, man that SUCKS. Sounds like you're dealing with it very maturely. Since you have no evidence against him to give the police, have you considered hiring a private investigator to trail the guy, and possibly record some evidence?
:o Ironically, some people believe that men are always the aggressors yet they still preach equality. thats some sick shit right there.

Why not sue them?
Back to the OP...
has there been any determination of the extent of the damages to the two vehicles?
there's a motorcycle in this story?
oh yeah.
love to continue the duct tape trial discussion in NMC though. If there was actually duct tape involved it does change the tone of the case quite a bit.
[ :o Ironically, some people believe that men are always the aggressors yet they still preach equality. thats some sick shit right there.

and that is why women will never be seen as equals, because they never will be seen as such by both men and women, because neither one really wants true "equality" in every way under the law, everyone wants to cherrypick what they want "equal"
and welcome to NMC.

Yeah, we got the call(s) yesterday. Turns out it was oil AND syrup in my truck - oil, syrup, and brown sugar in hers.
So new everything for both trucks from the fuel tanks to the engines. Trying to look on the bright side and be happy about getting a new $3000 engine for her 100K mile truck for just her deductible.
Still taking all I have to not go to the SOB's house with a baseball bat and some road flares. But I'm not going to lower myself to his level. Besides, I'd be the one to get caught. [roll]
Again on the positive side, I don't worry so much about riding the Monster when it's cold.
Man, if I were you, I'd probably hire a PI and see if he can get some evidence on this guy. Hell maybe he's hanging around the place at night and you can file stalking charges on him. Maybe he's doing other illegal shit that he will get in trouble for too. THen you can probably sue him in civil court for this? (dunno, IANAL)
Give it some time to draw the attention away from yourself. You'll have a chance to properly scheme/plan this make the beast with two backser's demise. They say revenge is a dish best served cold. I say it's best served as an all you can eat buffet! [evil]
