Nice vehicle!

I wouldn't mind one of those or a Tiguan.

We looked at the Tiguan, but it's quite a bit smaller than the Touareg and only comes with the 2.0T...

My Mom has a Toureg.

Nice car if you want to deal with the horrific gas mileage.

That thing weighs around 8,000 lbs.

5300 pounds and the gas mileage isn't really a worry for us....

I wish the car had the air suspension. This will do just fine. Probably won't take it off road. That's what the F150 (it'll be here on Wed) is for...

No seriously Nakid "congrat's" it's a lovely bit of kit but over here in jolly old England the price of gas puts ordinary mortals like me off such vehicle's  :'( :'(

My good lady has a nice little diesel powered 1 series bmw which returns quite a good gas milage so good on you and your good lady may your gas price's stay low compared to ours  ;) ;)

You're right, the VW has a true off road 4X4 with selectable low range, the Audi and Porshe variants do not...

I'd like to get a couple new vehicles right about now..I'm sure a few good deals to be had..but the current plans don't call for it.

the suspension raising is cool  ....

When it works or doesn't get stuck in the full "up" position.

Let's see..........

That system has been repaired three times.

the main computer system has been replaced twice.

And I can't tell you how many times it went in to turn that damn "low tire pressure" sensor off.

Hopefully VW fixed their problems and you will have an incident free ownership.

It is a 2007.

This one weighs around 8,000lbs or close to it.

I remember the dealer saying that when they bought it.

Your dealer is on drugs.  The V6 is a tad over 5,000 pounds and the V8 is a tad over 5,300 pounds.  Maybe that explains why he couldn't fix it either.

I keep trying to talk the wife into one...she wants the tiguan, but I want her to get the toureg...It looks like it might be more fun for playing around offroad....and I want the TDI

Get the Toureg over the tiguan.

the tiguan is using a japanese made transmission, a 09A variant. they are the most problematic transmissions volkswagen has ever used IMHO.

the Toureg uses a much better, damn near bullet proof trans.

From my experiance, I'd get a v8 with steel suspension (the air has to many problems) it generally has less problems the the fancier air suspension cars and the v6 is kinda sad in the toureg (fun in the R32 though).

the TPMS was probably the biggest annoyance every devised. the new system (based on audi's system) is much simpler. just set the tire pressure to specs. the older system allowed you to run custom tire pressures and the system had to have to be set for temperature so they require a test drive to actually learn the tire pressure very cool but to damn complicated. they were also too sensitive, if you parked next to another toureg it would pick up their tire pressures. Try setting pressure in a shop with two or three touregs.  [laugh]

From what I've seen the newer ones are much improved.

exactly the same vehicle built on the same factory same assembly  line ..just a re badge  (level of trim etc )     just like a Grand Marquis is the same as a Crown Victoria ....nakid doesn't have the turbo ..but it is the same vehicle

also gotta add i had a 87 Jetta  diesel ( last of the German made )  had 589,00 kms on it before wife had an accident in it ...1200kms on a tank ..would cruise all day at 150kmh

the car was trouble free except for 4 sets of glow plugs 4 timing belts  1 starter 1 alternator typical oil/air/fuel filters  / brakes /tires

driving down a dirt fire road does not count as "off road".. when you put up picutres of the thing covered in mud and with tree branch scrathes on the doors that is when we know you have been off roading.

nobody uses 4x4s for off roading, cept for maybe a few jeep wranger people and some contractors maybe with f150 and such. otherwise its like most people buying liter bikes, how many of those people really ride them on the track?  not many.

Most people who buy 4X4's would be better off and money ahead to buy a car / stationwagon and a second set of wheels with killer snowtires mounted.

after the 3rd oil pan got ripped out from under my mitsubishi mirage, I decided the off-roading was best left to the 4x4's. While I'll agree that most people never take their SUVs down anything more than a gravel road...I assure you that off-road ability will be greatly factored into my purchase  [laugh]

nope, Jatco tranny..

they actually drive pretty nice when new, but by 70k miles they have one problem or another.

granted I don't know if theres any improvement, and I seriously dobut there's any tiguans with that much milage, but the 09a used in the last few years of the MK4 with tiptronic were terrible, they either slipped while in 3/4th gears, the TC locked up and was actually scary (this happened to me on once, and I almost wrecked into my tool box) or the TCM crapped out. As far as I can tell, other then the ECU's crapping out at random the solenoids cause all the problems.

You can't buy any car, outside of a Crown Vic [or variant], on a full frame. I'd thought it was mostly due to crash safety, but like I said, I'll believe it.
