So I recently finished my custom Termi 2 into 1 custom exhaust. I mated it to a Quat-D header and man is this thing loud.
After reading another post which had some db measurements listed for a stock exhaust and a Leo Vince I thought it might not be a bad idea to see how loud it was.
And the answer is.....F*CKING LOUD!
At idle it measured 105.2 db measured from the right side of the bike at a distance of 6'. One thing to keep in mind for this measurement is that I took it in my garage because it was snowing out. Once it gets a little warmer I will take the bike outside and check it again. I'm sure the measurement will be significantly lower....maybe.
For those of you who are wondering how I made the measurement, I downloaded a decibel meter app on my iPhone to use as a measuring device. I was a little concerned at how accurate it would be so I compared it to an Audio Control SA 3052 we have at the shop. To my surprise it was pretty accurate. At the shop I used pink noise and used several sample levels between 65 db and 95 db. Then I measured it using the app on the iPhone and measured within .5 db +/- each time.
So, is it too loud, or no?
It's way too loud IMO.

And in my opinion, and I'm not so old... yet :D
I'm 170 years younger than Nate and I think that is too make the beast with two backsing loud.

Or, not loud enough....
The black/gold bike was 117dB and the bobber was 118dB.

No silly! At WOT. But honestly, idle was pretty bad too...

Well see there's the difference. My bike is 105.2 db at IDLE!

DOH!

Guess I missed the part about you having 105 at idle. My bad.
What'd you do? Turn your muffler into a loudener?!? [laugh] [laugh]
muffloudner
you know it's too loud when after a couple of days after your last ride the first answer you give to people when they speak to you is "WHAT", "WHAT" [laugh] [laugh]

Yeah, I should be asking that alot this year.
I should have a video/sound clip in a few days for everyone.
Not too loud. I think you are right about the measurement. It will be lower outside of the garage. You at least have a muffler. I have heard the bobber run and I have to say, the un-baffled BoomTubes on my bike are way louder....

Your bike in very loud. Everytime I hear it I can't understand how you can ride it like that. I'd be interested to see a measurement of your bike at idle. [coffee]

I liked the sound of the straight pipes on your S2R8! [evil]
My SIL are 105 dB. Loud but still sound good! [thumbsup]
I just had a chance to re-measure it ouside and without the confines of the garage it was only 97.5db at idle. [cheeky]
to put this in context, what are decibel levels for idle with arrow or termi full system?
If your ears aren't bleeding then it's probably fine. ;D
well just put on my roads italias. and they are basically straight pipes now with a little packing to absorb the highs. i can hear the pusling of the valve openings i think . and yes i will be wearing ear plugs from now on.

have you checked at 2800rpm?
Just trying to see how they compare to 'normal' a/m cans.
if i read that right, then i dont see it as being too loud... your bike has something there to muffle the sound, but my bike has nothing (04 800 with just the headers, no mufflers), and i dont think mine is too loud. in fact, at highway cruising speeds i hear my intake OVER the exhaust.
So I guess it's not too loud as I originally thought. Dr. Desmo just came by the house to check out the new exhaust and he thought it was ok. I think his exact words were "Thats the best sounding 2V I've ever heard" ;D

Keep in mind...
he has very limited experience. ;D
Did you test at 2800 yet?

I'll have a video as soon as Jewcati gets off his lazy ass and uploads it. [roll]
[popcorn] Just waiting for clip.
I finally got a video so I thought I would share.

I'm not really sure how I feel about the video. It's much deeper and sounds seriously pissed off in real life. ;D
Let me know what you think.

What's all that rattling ???
Do you need to get your valves looked at? It sounds like something's broken :-\

i hear ya. cameras don't pick up bass very well, not to mention all the high-pitched noise from your clutch drowning it out.
i bet that thing sounds ridiculous.

Yeah it sounds much better in real life.
Now if the foot of snow that just fell last night would go away we may have a riding season this year. [roll]

i hear that man.
it's so cold right now, I don't even have enough motivation to sit in the cold garage just to put my new parts on...
I hate winter.
buy one of those oil radiator heaters for the garage. make sure it has a safety switch if it gets knocked over. but it's a great tool for your garage.
harbor freight propane 10,000BTU IR heater. $69.99
ive been thinking about buying one for working in the winter time. or just building one myself.
