When people come over to my house (non bike people mostly) they are amazed that I have two bikes in my living room. They say things like..."You can't fit those in your garage?" or "Are those real motorcycles?"
When my mother comes over it's the worst... I'm 42 years old and married... I haven't lived in her house since I was 19 years old and she still huffs and puffs disapprovingly when she sees the two beautiful Monsters parked on either side of the room.
Anyone have a cool pic of their bike in the house and a stupid remark someone has made about it? (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2473/3641830018_dfdf8e894b.jpg?v=0)

I don't think there is anything wrong with it per se, but why do you keep them in the house?
Hey, if I could ride up the stairs, I would sleep with mine.
How do you get them in and out? I assume some type of ramping system.
Normally people do this when they don't have a garage. It's not uncommon here in ny.

Because I think they're beautiful Italian art and I love to sit and gaze adoringly at them. I can't see them when they're in the garage, plus the garage is cold out there. Garages are made for cars, lawn mowers, bicycles, and dirt bikes. Tools and weedeaters go out there. The Ducs stay warm and cozy in the house.

I do have a ramp to come up three stairs onto my front porch, then I slide the rear tire a little sideways and roll them backwards through the front door. Piece of cake.
+1 If I could have my bike in the living room, i would in a heartbeat! right now she's covered in the rain. :'(
and even if I had a garage, I'll take her into the family room because she is family...she will have her very own corner. [thumbsup]
I'd do it if I didn't have a garage, but...
We occasionally keep one or both of our bikes in the kitchen since we have no garage:

I'm not so sure that the wife would let me park a bike in house......but once I find a good deal on a bike and buy it, I'm sure going to try.
.....afterall, her road bicycle has been parked in the living room since we bought it (2 weeks). We have a garage.
It's not practical in the house I live in now. Both the front and rear entrances are too tight and confined to manuever a motorcycle through.
But I certainly would if I could. In fact, when shopping for our next house, I will try to find one with a front and/or rear entrance that will make it easy to bring a motorcycle inside.

One of the biggest arguments I ever had with my ex-wife was about bringing the bike in the house. She ab-slutty,,opps, I mean absolutely wouldn't have it. My NEW wife, on the other hand has no problem with it. SCORE one 4 me!! ;D
Hey... now that I think about it... my ex wouldn't let my bike in the house but she let another guy in h... well for the sake of the kids I will leave the rest of that out but you can see the mentality I was forced to deal with. [bang]
I tried to bring mine in the house for the winter, but she wouldn't fit through the door. So I had to rent a storage unit instead. I'd be pumped to keep her in the house. [thumbsup]

She'll go through the door as long as you have a somewhat straight run (no tight corners) into your house. If you can get a damn sofa in there you can get your bike in. You just have to angle the bars a little as you go in, maybe hold in your clutch so it doesn't scrape the snot out of your door. If you have large bar end mirrors they need to come off too, but I have small CRG bar end mirrors and it comes right in no prob. I can even put it in my den which is through another door, down a hall, around a corner and through a smaller door. Where there's a duc there's a way.

I'd never considered motorcycles in the house, but some of these pictures are warming me to the idea.
I would never bring something so dirty inside.
Seriously-go ride the dang things. They'll be okay if they get cold-they're made of metal.
So here's what I'm thinking. If we had the bike up on a lighted pedestal in the garage, a large window could be placed between the living room and the garage. This would allow us to see the bike from the inside whether it is dirty or not. Also, for those of you with significant others, a curtain could be hung so they wouldn't always "have" to look at it. BTW, my girlfriend already ok'ed it for our place (but she works at the duc dealership).

One of my customers has a brand new BMW K1200R on the third flr landing. It has never been started. It still has the plastic wrapper on the Remus carbon can. It also has a BMW GPS and is custom BMW black painted. I look at it in all its beauty and think what a shame that it sits there. I told him to get the Tesi 3D next because That is a piece of art.

LOL at bikes inside! My wife would kill me, but if I were single, u bet! Although garage is better for working on them, hmm, definitely an art piece I'd say [clap]

Ok, really?? My Duc is a far from pretty 2002 S4 that has a ton of miles on her. I have ridden her everywhere and in all kinds of weather. I've done a bunch of mods to her but she has so far to go before they're even worth talking about. My point is that she
is ridden,,
hard,, and a lot.
As far as dirty goes,, my dog goes out and poops, sniffs poop, sniffs other dogs butts and is far dirtier that my bike and I let her in the house... My cat scratches in the cat box and I don't through her out. My kids walk around at school all day amongst billions of KID germs and I let them in. Are you kidding me?? My bike is one of the cleanest things I let in my house.

Nice bike MrIncredible ..... we are two of a kind 8) ........ One's suppose to enjoy their toys & not becoming its' slave ...
but then again, there are people who really enjoy cleaning their toys as well .... [coffee] ... the world is made of all sorts of wonderful people ....
I think that keeping something somewhat clean is part of taking care of something you enjoy to use. If you don't take care of your toys you won't be able to have fun with them when you want to. I think maybe I heard that from my dad at one point or another when I was a kid,,, or maybe about a million times!! [roll]
Anywho, being military and having to keep my weapon spotless at all times is a drag for sure but my dad's lessons sure came in handy both times when I was deployed to Iraq. My weapon was clean and always ready to play with. The same could not be said for those guys who thought that if they just squirted some oil on the bolt they could neglect their equipment and it would work just as well.
Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services,, cleanliness,, brush your teeth, scrub behind your ears,,, yes, all a pain in the ass but all very necessary.

You need to be like me, then.......tile the floor in one room and leave the worn out carpet in the other room. The carpet probably needed to be replaced when I moved in to the house back in '96, but then that is more money taken out of the bike-fund, right?
You'd actually hate to see how dirty my bikes get. I rarely, if ever clean them. I park my Harley in the house, every day, and this is what it looked like a while back....

I wouldn't want to bring them into the house, but my ultimate plan is to thave the separate huge barn type garage with a wood stove, huge stereo, huge TV, workshop.... oh, and bar / mantown for the buddies. [beer]
Wow, I just don't get a lot of you. Too dirty to bring in the house?? Those of you that have said that never wear your shoes in the house? You don't have pets, or kids?.. I mean after seeing those two ducs and that Bugatti ( MotoCreations ) sitting there so beautifully how can that not pull on your heart strings?
As far as the Garage Queen comment... Hell No!! I ride the piss out of my bike.. I also take care of it and clean the major crud off of it...
How dirty is it really to bring a street bike in the house?? I mean, I ride down the street. I don't live near a land fill or on a dirt road.. it's just the road.
When I ride in the rain she gets wet and I let her sit on the porch to mostly drip dry. I wipe down the tank, fender, hugger, and gages with a cotton towel but when she's done dripping she comes in.
I refinished my hardwood floor myself and tend to be very anal about scratches and crap on the floor. My dog sheds like a freak and every few days I could make a complete other dog with the amount of hair I pick up off the floor but the bike drops NOTHING!
Take a look at the pics I posted when I started this thread, I'm military and do the best I can with my paycheck so my house isn't huge but I think it looks nice.. Dose it look dirty to you?
Oh, I missed the silver Paul Smart in the corner,,, Sweet MotoCreations!! [thumbsup]
Also, I may have misspoke when I said that garages were made for cars and bicycles. If you have an old Bugatti, or a Mercedes 300SL, or any other car that fits in that category, it can go in the house too. If your bicycle is a carbon fiber masterpiece or if it's just your passion and you love looking at it... it also belongs in the house.

Thanks. I should probably update the thread since I have a whole summer and about 6 thousand miles on them now. They are pretty loud, but nothing like a Harley and have a good sound IMO. Bike ran great all summer, very smooth. The huge clamps did drag in a few corners along with the kickstand, but the wife was also on the back at the time so they might be ok if you're riding solo. I'm still looking for some smaller clamps, but these work and don't look too bad IMO.
Was also stopped by a state trooper (for other reasons) who noticed the fact that I was "missing" mufflers. After pointing out the resonaters to him he just laughed and said "barely" [evil]
no ticket tho
these two are getting a lot of comments on the exhaust lately
I wish I could....unfortunately I live at the 6th floor of a block building and the elevator is not big enough!
Otherwise I think I would do that during the coldest&rainier part of the year.....
Time to bring this post back to life... Just saw TRON... Ok, so not Monsters but bikes in the house non the less. I was loving it.
I just started a page on facebook called Motorcycles in the House... come check it out and post your pics...

I think this one is pretty good. Its one of my customers foyer in Manhattan.

Of course I had to sit on them make vroom vroom noises, and do the squid suspension/brake test ;D
I had a nice spot picked out for my Sport 1000, and my wife was even fine with it, but then I heard about insurance issues if any vehicles are stored in the house. Apparently, they can deny a claim if there is a house fire and they discover that a motorcycle was inside. So, my bikes stay in the garage all winter. :(
We currently have 5 bikes in the house...no garage and we're in Alaska. I can't bear to have our bikes outside in the cold and the snow. I like being able to oogle my Duc all winter, and my dog likes curling up next to it :)

We regularly kept both bikes in our kitchen at our old place.

Nice Confederate bikes. [evil]
Here's mine in my dedicated indoor garage with RaceDeck tiles. Lucille is undergoing winter mods.

I have to admit I'm very surprised so many keep their bikes in the house.
I keep my S4R in the living-room, but I never thought others would too.
I like the art aspect, and it's my way of enjoying the bike during the off-season. I do, however, store it in the shop or garage during the riding season.
Ducati to you all!

That. Is. Awesome.
Here is Molly before I turned the carport into a garage.

Also, that same spot was the site of my first ever 2-stroke top-end rebuild.

My fiancee would kill me if I parked my Duc in the house. It would be a good excuse to tell her that we now have room in the garage for her car during the winter. It just might work hehe.
not a monster but my 250 single
i also did a topend on a dirtbike in a unit a few years back

at the bike shop, I love the polar opposite reactions I get from customers: it's either 'wow is that your Ducati??' or 'Dewkati...what's that? is it old?'

Here's my winter project: '74 cb125 freebie, what what!!

And for those days when bicycles have gotten old I can pretend I'm in a race trailer somewhere fabulous making adjustments to satisfy the rider

We dubbed it the duc nest. It doesn't get cold often in North Florida...

my first thought... must be a rental.
Not my apartment, but their carpet has already seen better days in that rental.
I've got this facebook page called Motorcycles in the House... I need some more folks to post up pics on the wall. Come check it out!!
The reason I started the FB page is the same reason I began this thread. I know that there are a lot of riders, like myself that feel that bikes are more than transportation, more than just a fun way to pass the time while getting from point A to point B. There are people that see motorcycles as an art form, an art they have a passion for, an art form they want to display and look at in their home as sure as someone else would display their paintings or black light posters.
These people that share my passion may have friends and family that don't understand their obsession and believe that motorcycles, like cars belong in the garage. This thread, as well as my facebook page are resources we can use to help our loved ones understand that we are not alone. That we are not simply crazy.
We are a proud community of motorcycle lovers...

That ten spoke rear wheel looks awesome. Me definitely likey. Barely see the front wheel behind the rotors on any monster and the rear wheel looks so good with a minimalist exhaust like pure udder goodness or boomtubes. [thumbsup]
