Post by: mitt on July 16, 2009, 04:48:35 AM Looks like an artist rendition after seeing the spy shots, but I think that is a pretty good interpretation of what it will be.

4-valve, Water-cooled Multi? Hmmmmm... Thanks for sharing! Title: Re: New Multi Strada ?? Post by: Grampa on July 16, 2009, 05:07:49 AM me want
Title: Re: New Multi Strada ?? Post by: red baron on July 16, 2009, 05:07:54 AM Ducati,
Can you please lose the fuuuukkkkkkkkin udder? :P Title: Re: New Multi Strada ?? Post by: factorPlayer on July 16, 2009, 05:35:54 AM I heard that last 1100 Multi has already rolled off the line - no more air-cooled multis being made now
That front end looks like a cross between hypermotard and caponord.... Title: Re: New Multi Strada ?? Post by: El Matador on July 16, 2009, 05:46:25 AM I can't really picture that shock placement as being optimal for a dualsport. Then Again, I can't picture a 1098 engine being optimal for a dualsport either ???
Title: Re: New Multi Strada ?? Post by: m1moto on July 16, 2009, 05:48:34 AM There will be a spot in the garage for this one - I like.
Title: Re: New Multi Strada ?? Post by: NAKID on July 16, 2009, 05:52:06 AM Ducati, Can you please lose the fuuuukkkkkkkkin udder? :P If it didn't come with an ugly exhaust, what would be your incentive to buy the over-priced Termi's? But I must admit, the old model has grown on me...I want one. Title: Re: New Multi Strada ?? Post by: m1moto on July 16, 2009, 07:46:55 AM Cell phone pic on ADVrider.com

Post by: Raux on July 16, 2009, 08:13:48 AM here's the things i see with that rendering that are wrong.
No hard case mounting locations. No way that rear seat will be comfortable for long hauls No rear rack mount Not so sure the location of the Passenger pegs will be great for heat VERY aggressive looking Very little protection for hands, legs for touring Things i hope they do. A smaller version. hate to see the only bike ducati makes under 10,000 is the 696. A small touring bike would be nice. Panniers standard ABS LARGE fuel tank at least 200 mi range mounting locations for GPS, etc. power outlets Title: Re: New Multi Strada ?? Then Again, I can't picture a 1098 engine being optimal for a dualsport either ??? Just like the Multi it'll be "dualsport" only in name. Hard packed gravel maybe with the DTC at max. Title: Re: New Multi Strada ?? Post by: swampduc on July 16, 2009, 03:10:30 PM Hmm. Maybe I'm missing something, but that lucks about as ugly as the Multi to me - in fact, uglier. Guess when the time comes, I'll just have to look for an ST (or get BST's for the sbk and pocket the extra cash [evil])
Title: Re: New Multi Strada ?? Post by: scduc on July 16, 2009, 04:22:41 PM Looks like the streetfighter with a big fairing and taller bars. Problem is, if it has the 1098 motor, it may price out of reach for most of us.

Post by: NAKID on July 29, 2009, 07:16:46 AM Well, it's not really as ugly as the outgoing model. But does it really need the 1098 motor?

Title: Re: New Multi Strada ?? Post by: mitt on July 29, 2009, 07:27:24 AM Well, it's not really as ugly as the outgoing model. But does it really need the 1098 motor? I think there will be 2 versions (at least). A water cooled 4 valve (1098), and a 1100 air cooled 2 valve (monster). mitt Title: Re: New Multi Strada ?? Post by: superjohn on July 29, 2009, 07:35:46 AM Looks sort of like a Triumph Tiger.
Title: Re: New Multi Strada ?? Post by: sally101 on July 29, 2009, 08:36:52 AM I think there will be 2 versions (at least). A water cooled 4 valve (1098), and a 1100 air cooled 2 valve (monster). mitt Yes it needs the 1098 motor! and no, the air cooled multi is dead (for now). It is extremely unlikely that the DS motor would fit in the same frame as a 1098 motor (see monster / streetfighter). Title: Re: New Multi Strada ?? Post by: Raux on July 29, 2009, 09:04:27 AM with just the 1098 motor, the price is going to be HUGE with bags and the like.
Title: Re: New Multi Strada ?? Post by: m1moto on July 29, 2009, 09:17:46 AM I think we can expect prices close to the StreetFighter's
Title: Re: New Multi Strada ?? Post by: Rufus120 on July 29, 2009, 09:30:46 AM So here's an interview Diego Sgorbati, Ducati vice president of marketing in an italian mag.
http://hellforleathermagazine.com/2009/07/ducati-talks-strada-aperta-cru.html#more (http://hellforleathermagazine.com/2009/07/ducati-talks-strada-aperta-cru.html#more) "The 'road enduro' of which many spy photos exist will be there[EICMA]...however, we don't think of it as an 'road enduro' like the mags describe it," says Diego Sgorbati, Ducati vice president of marketing in an interview with an Italian magazine. That's the first official quote related to the Ducati Strada Aperta a new adventure touring model that's expected to be in the same vein as the Yamaha TDM, new Triumph Tiger and KTM 990 SMT. "Ducati is looking at many segments, scooters, custom, enduro, off-road...it's a normal expansion," says Sgorbati. "Before going down one road though we look at all the potential barriers, technological and distribution related. For example, how many of our dealers can sell a superbike, as well as a motocross bike? Also, does it match the 'soul' of the brand, does it make sense? What worked 20 years ago might not make sense today. [The Ducati Vyper cruiser] in any kind of near future, yes, it's out. Maybe in 4-5 years we would look at the custom market to as well as other segments to see where we could expand." It's expected that the Strada Aperta will use a version of Ducati's water-cooled V-Twin although its not known if that will be the Ducati Streetfighter's 1099cc engine or the newer 1198.4cc motor. That engine and the street-focused running gear evident in the pictures above and in other Strada Aperta spy shots indicates that while the bike might be tall like a giant trailie, it's focus will resolutely be on-road performance, hence the name, which translates to "Open Road." Title: Re: New Multi Strada ?? Post by: Raux on July 29, 2009, 09:55:55 AM I think we can expect prices close to the StreetFighter's again ducati is going up and up...they need more models around the 10k range. 15k is too high an 848 based SA around 11k would be great Title: Re: New Multi Strada ?? Post by: Triple J on July 29, 2009, 10:04:08 AM again ducati is going up and up... they need more models around the 10k range. 15k is too high an 848 based SA around 11k would be great That was their business plan announced a few years ago...limit the entry level bikes and focus more on higher end models which bring higher profit per unit sold. I agree...a model around 11K would be great. I think they could do it with the 1098 motor though. There isn't any reason a model with an 848 motor would automatically be cheaper. I'll bet it costs the same to build an 848 engine as it does a 1098 engine. The cost savings come with things like no traction control, cheaper suspension, cheaper rims, lack of a stock steering damper, etc. Title: Re: New Multi Strada ?? Most people replace all that stuff you mentioned anyways. |
