The 2010 Ducati 848 Dark is painted in matte black and will retail for $1,000 less than the regular 848.  The 848 Dark doesn't downgrade its spec to achieve the lower price and actually benefits from the same upgrades as the rest of the 2010 848 range: aluminum cam belt tensioner pulleys, LED dash and 30mm mirror extension kit.

45k? Really? That's awesome!

It's like an 848 with free race body work.   That is if you go and buy race body work after buying the dark.

Might have something to do with the fact that our economy is still in the shitter right now, and we are STILL Ducati's biggest sales market.  Relatively common practice of releasing a new model to reinvigorate interest and then lowering the price a touch (but still within profitability margin) to draw more potential customers into the dealerships.  All in all, great bike and a great price.
WANT!   [thumbsup]

herm... it follows some of the old 'rules' for darks since it's got no clear. Dark monsters did downgrade anything except the top triple - the rest (cowls) was just left off. Can't really leave much off an sbk body wise... Well unless you want a streetfighter. So it still makes me wonder a bit. Sure no clear is probably a good bit of change saved in production but not enough to pass on 1k of savings to us.
Either way man, that's hot. Dark has always been my fave

				Something is amiss.
you don't carve off $1,000 off the price while upgrading the rollers to aluminum and not losing some component's 'quality'

Well, tell you what...  If you all want to chip in to buy me one - I'll be sure to give it a thorough inspection. Check the belts, rollers, components, how fast it is at the track... and get back to you with my thoughts.  [thumbsup] I'll take that bullet for all of you.

So what?  A lot of the '09s already had that.  Not like those wheels are a significant change to the '10 spec.

And there's nothing wrong with 'em.
Perelli tires are going on all the bikes now I read as well.

Maybe it is the economy and Ducatis aren't selling as fast.  Quite a few manufacturers have lowered prices this year and last year.  By calling it a Dark, Ducati is able to save face some when lowering the price.

				Ooh, that's a good point.
Kinda makes me mad to have to pay a grand more to get the faster color though... [cheeky]

That's true. The $1000 less in your pockets is going to make you lighter, and thus, faster...

Does anyone know if the DARK 848 will be a USA model? It's not on the DNA only shows a red and white one.
Anyone happen to notice that the SE Nicky Hayden edition 848 has Captian America written all over it?

Saw the hayden 848 at AMS. meh. The new Corse color scheme is way more up my alley, or the Bayliss edition 1098, which only has a small portion of the australian flag, and is more a rider tribute:

My only gripe: If you are going to clear over the brushed aluminum tank (which I think looks great), please do the same for the swingarm, which could really use the same clear-coat treatment. It would look outstanding, and for the price you are charging, somebody in Bologna should have mentioned this.

i would think they absolutely do.

Sales mgr at my local dealer says he's got 2 848 darks on order, so yeah, they will be sold in the US.

Anyone hear yet for sure if this is coming to the US? I know that you said one was on order, but it's still not advertised on Ducati NA

Positively coming to the US, the Ducati USA site has not been updated for the 2010 range.

Thanks Dave. As soon as they start becoming available I think that it's pretty likely that we'll be seriously evaluating what's in our garage in favor of the 848 Dark.

				The swingarm is still ugly!

Not a fan of the Dark848.  Too much black-ness and not enough contrast between colors.  I still lust after the pearl-white 848 though...
(wipes up drool...)

				Love it!  [thumbsup] [thumbsup]

i agree with stu, the dark i guess is great if you are going to use the bike as a track bike less to change out, but other than that its a bit cheaper for entry, but really the bikes look a lot better in the metallic black or the white or red.. they need to bring back the yellow sbk.
the hayden thing with the capt america theme was a bit goofy but that is just my opinion. each to their own.  i think its tough for the companies to design  a tasteful r/w/b theme with stars and stripes on it without it looking like some cheezy over the top thing that you would see on a tshirt sold by a corner vender for $5 in nyc.

Now if it had a red frame, a la bp's 1098....   [evil]
;D

I don't like the flat black and I'm attracted to shinny things, but this could be a blank canvas upon which one's creativity could find expression.  Of course there is always the problems of runs and orange peal.

ok let me be the first to say it then...
let the Ducati gods hear...
give us the 848 SL in yellow with a lightweight mono-subframe, magnesium rims and carbonfiber bodywork- ohlins all around. keep it priced no higher than the 1198 base model.
go ahead and make a limited number that way... let them be snapped up for huge amount more from the dealers... then release the ohlins-less model with non-carbon fiber body for a bit less as a standard model in the lineup.

hmm i like the idea of a lighter weight midweight of the 848 in yellow, great concept.
but i see them haveing a heck of a hard time for doing it for what only 3-4$ more.  i think the wheels and ohlins would easily eat up the 4k righ thtere and we haven't even gotten to the lighter mono subframe redesign or possible carbon bodywork or slipper clutch option which would be nice for a super pimped out model.

Someone (who's not working right now) should fire up Photoshop and pop one up here for us to check out!!!  [thumbsup]

Mmmmmmmmmmm dark. If only my back could stand the riding position.

For me...  If I wanted an 848 blank-canvas, I'd just buy a used one or a lightly rashed one for many thousands $ less than the asking price of this 848D.

I still find myself drooling over mine after 2 years of owning it.
I'm sure for those looking to scoop up an 848 the dark is quite tempting since for the price difference to the gloss you can use that money for some great mods or several trackdays.  I hope I'm done modding this soon so I can get another bike.
