"The big question is how could you guarantee you were eating artificial flesh rather than flesh from an animal that had been slaughtered. It would be very difficult to label and identify in a way that people would trust."

Well, if they labeled it 'Test Tube Meat', that'd probably be sufficient.

WTH? We don't need artificial meat. Real meat is plentiful and tasty.

Why can't they make artificial vegetables that have all the yummy nutrition but taste like something good. You know. Something like meat. Bacon flavored veggies would go over much better than fake meat.

Makes me wonder...

1) How long do you think it'll be before someone tries culturing human cells into "meat"?

2) Would you try it, maybe with fava beans and a nice Chianti?

I remember PETA offering the  X-poultry (http://www.peta.org/feat_in_vitro_contest.asp) prize last year
PETA is now stepping in and offering a $1 million reward to the first scientist to produce and bring to market in vitro meat.  Why is PETA supporting this new technology? More than 40 billion chickens, fish, pigs, and cows are killed every year for food in the United States in horrific ways.

It leads me to wonder if there are no good concepts (http://www.xprize.org/) they can't co-opt and ruin.  They manage to almost  ruin nudity (http://blog.peta.org/archives/nude/) in their own preachy, crackpot way.  People should not pose naked to promote the agendas of cute or delicious animals, but because they want to, or they have very low standards.  Preferably, low standards.

In conclusion, I am very surprised that I am the first one to mention bacon, turkey bacon, or artificial turkey bacon.

I wonder if PETA realizes that most of these tissue cultures are grown with fetal bovine serum or something similar. [roll]
