so spawned from my post about the 10 yr old audi that someoen at work is trying to sell for $10K we started discussing what kind of cars i liked. i am really intrigued by this discussion and would like to hear what a larger base of people thinks.
so what kind of cars move you?
here's the list i posted, see if you can figure out the theme. :)
Quoteof the cars i would buy the audi isn't all that high. this is namely due to the price
however, if i could get one of the S wagons i would laugh my ass of at each stop light.
the cars i would buy (this is assuming i have a decent amt of money for the down payment and good credit)
mitsubishi evo X - yes, i have always loved this car and i would take it over the wrx sti (i like the shark look, but miss the bug eye fog/driving lights down low)
subaru wrx sti - 2nd choice because the evo is the first rally car i saw. love the awd and the way they reworked the diff a few years back. the wagon would be my first choice. if memory serves, it was only 100lbs heavier than the sedan.
1999 toyota celica GT4 - yes, i'm gay.
mid to late 90's eagle talon TSi or mitsubishi eclipse gsx
mitsubishi 3000gt vr4 - probably way out of my price range, but i have always loved it.
subaru impreza or legacy
VW GTI - i drove lethe's and loved it. i don't think they are making them anymore though. also the only vw i would buy
random truck that has 4wd and good towing capacity. i figure if i had the other cars i could tow 1 or 2 bikes on a small trailer, but the truck would be better suited.
audi is on the list, but it needs to be the 6 or 8, s model, and quattro. (and i would have to have a shitload more money to spend)
Seems to me you favor 4 or awd turbos....
I would love to have a 65 Ford escort all rallied out. [thumbsup]

Not tough to put the BPT (1.8L Turbo) from the 323 GT into a Festiva. Sport Compact Car did it, and said it was fast as balls. Jay Leno has a SHOgun (3.2L Taurus SHO Yamahammer V-6 mounted amidships).
My list:
Porsche 968
323GTX
Lancia Delta Integrale HF
Porsche 944 w/ 350 smallblock.
Rotary Miata
SVX (Don't as me why. I'd love one with the EJ25T in it.)
Renault R5 Turbo (old school cool)
RenaultSport Clio (3.2L V6 amidships)
Mustang SVO
Lotus Cortina
Suzuki Samurai (w/ 1.9L VW TDI motor)
ANY 80's BMW 6 series... (LOVE 'em!)
E30 BMW with a M30B35...
E28/E39/E50 M5
2002Tii Turbo
3.0CSl Batmobile
E30/E36/E46 M3 (KILL for a REAL E36 Lightweight)
Audi Coupe Quattro
Escort Cosworth
Datsun 510 w/ 260Z motor.
V8 Focus
MX-3 (with J-Spec KLZE)
GREAT TOPIC!! I'll simmer over more.
speaking of the taurus SHO engine....
my buddy had a mercury mystique. same thing as the escort and the sport versions of both came with a v6 in them, so i reasoned that we should be able to get the SHO engine in without too much of an issue.
unfortunatly he never went for the idea. :(

Mystique is the Mercury-ized Contour... Which came w/ the 2.5 Duratec... the Escort clone was the Tracer. (I have a hot-rodded ZX2.... kind of a Ford geek.) ;D

i've never really been into drag racing though i do love the noises they make.

doh! i meant contour. i just equate the contour to the escort as it seems to be the same basic car as far as the line-up goes.

Similar purpose, and both with a lacking execution.. so yeah, can go with that. LOL [laugh]
Audi A8 W12
Audi R8
BMW 760Li
BMW M5
Mercedes S65 AMG
Actually...this list is too long to post here.
Frankly, I love high end sports sedans. I love european supercars. I love Japanese supercars. I love American supercars(No Corvettes!!!). I love American Musclecars. I love Australian Musclecars.
My top preference though is for sports sedans. I like comfort and performance. Plus it's nice to smoke some douchebag in a V8 mustang in my lowly supercharged 6 cylinder sedan. [evil]
Awesome thread, here are mine.
1968 Dodge Charger R/T- coolest car ever made
Audi RS4
Audi S8 (with lambo engine)
Audi R8 Diesel
Nissan 300Z turbo
Henesse Viper
Big Ass Ford Excursion
So many more but these are all I can think of now. I'll add more later.
I like to drive my current ride - '01 Audi A4 2.8 30V. Quattro of course. Best thing I've driven in the snow...ever.
I do admit...I love me a Quattro in the snow. Blowing by all the 4x4 trucks and SUVs that are crawling around...
I got another one for you all

i like american muscle, i jsut wouldn't buy something like that unless i had nothing to spend my millions of dollars on.
I grew up in Detroit and my father worked for GM. He *specifically* told me that I was to own no other car but a GM. Then...oddly enough...he wouldn't let me buy a '66 Tempest w/and I6 and a 'glide. Ok...fine by me...then I went into Fords. Hard core.
We used to drag-race 'em in the summer (& cruise 'em too), and then re-build 'em in the winters in heated garages.
My 2nd favorite make? Buick
(http://image.popularhotrodding.com/f/9149502+w750+st0/0707phr_08z+1970_buick_gs+drag.jpg)
haha, i love the plate on that car. [thumbsup]
i also grew up playing int he woods mostly. the cars i really enjoy all seem to have some form of offroad aspect to them.
I like my Corvette. I liked my Accord. Basically, I like any car that's got a manual transmission and is reasonably fun to drive.
Just about anything with a V-8 is enjoyable for me. Cars, trucks - doesn't matter which. Love manual transmissions, but we don't have one in the garage right now.
Since my 40th b-day is approaching, I've been shopping for an appropriate vehicle that meets my criteria (above). Already have a V-8 powered pickup, so I guess it's gonna have to be a V-8 powered car. ;D A gently used C6 Z06 is high on my shopping list. [evil]

69 dodge charger, general lee of course
71 hemi cuda convertable
a viper would be nice
really wouldnt mind one of those srt10 dodge rams
then theres my old favorite the 89 pontiac firebird formula, i had one, totaled it, i want another one
seems that a lot of males like the big v8s.
can't say that i can really argue with that.

Okay then. Out of all the cars I work on I think the Cayman S is one of the best short of a GT3. I drove a Ferrari F 430 a few weeks ago and enjoyed it. One of the cars that really suprised me was a Dodge Viper SRT 10 that I aligned for one of my Porsche clients. Set it up very aggressive cause its his track pregnant dog. Drove extremely well compared to the last one ive played with. Suprisingly I wouldn't mind more seat time in that one.
The cars I would like to own are both either two expensive, to impractical or both. Right now we have a GTI and a Passat 4motion. They are in the process of being replaced by a shiny new A4 Quatro Avant.

I've driven the S6 before.. Its... ok.. just such a huge car, moves well for its size but not like the S4 (I've even driven Rs6's with software.. insanely powerful. it's pulling at 90 like mine does at 40) but they aren't as fun as the S4.
the V8 is a blast, with a good exhaust the sound is awesome, a lot more smooth then the 2.7t.. but not as easy to mod.

There's five pre-owned ones here in the US... Starts at 185,000
This topic is too broad.
There's cars I want but will never own (Ferrari 246GTS, M-B SLK, Alfa 8C-2800, etc.),
Cars I want and might someday break down and buy (M-B 500SL, Lotus Elise, BMW Z(M)3 coupe, Porsche 928S4),
And cars I own or have owned that I really enjoyed driving ('68 Jaguar XKE 2=2, '80 Fiat Spider, Mini Cooper S,)
Anyway, there's no way I could have just one car. I'd need at least a sporty car and a truck, so my choice(s): Mini Cooper S for twisties, and my Dodge diesel 4x4 for highway and hauling.
Anyone have any experience with the John Cooper Works edition of the Mini Cooper? that thing always looked like a helluva lot of fun, but it's one car I don't think I've ever seen on the street. Not even here in LA, where you basically see everything imaginable.

Two people in my local club have one. Great fun, but not as practical for street use as the "S". The extra 40-45 hp is noticable, but IMO the suspension is too harsh.

I thought the suspension was a very nice upgrade over the stock setup and didn't find it harsh in the least. It's definately not plush though
I was suprised that we haven't seen anyone with a preference for old trucks!

This is very true but I am from New England and I don't think it gets much worse.
I was flogging the shit out of the car and so wasn't really evaluating it for ride quality as much as cornering ability.

the original intent was for cars that you could actually go out and buy now.
i was laughing at the fact that someone is selling a 10 yr old car with 87K on it for $10,000 and was then informed that the car new was closer to $50K. i wouldn't spend that much on a car. i posted up a list of cars that i would buy, and that are closer to my budget. (import taxes not included, lol)

the original intent was for cars that you could actually go out and buy now.

Trust me I don't want to. Me and my dad got it in 2007 I think. It was one of three cars we planned on getting some day. 1970 Dodge Charger, he used to have one, wished he'd never sold it. 1970 Dodge Challenger, pretty much my favorite car ever. My mom wouldn't let me get one as my first car saying it "wouldn't be reliable"... psh lol... and then that good ole Cuda, it was the first one we were able to get. It's the one thing I got from my dad that I said I'd never sell. I know the policy, but will take a chance. I'm a religious person, and have been very blessed at times in my life. But lately I've been called elsewhere. I'm applying for a mission trip that will take me around the world to 11 countries in 11 months. It costs around 15000 to go on. One of my best friends is going on the same trip but a different route. I am very grateful for everything i've been given in my life, but for me it's time to give back. So when God hit me real hard one day and said that I don't need a lot of the things I have, I started selling it all. This will be the hardest thing for me to let go of. But if it means giving some of that to my friend so that she is able to fund her trip and go help the world, I wouldn't have any regret in it. Maybe one day down the road it will end up in my driveway again...

The cars I really want are almost never sold in the United States.
A 5-door 6-speed manual MkV Golf R32. We only got the 3-door and DSG.
A Jetta SportWagon (Golf Estate everywhere else) equipped with 4-motion AWD and the 6-speed manual. We only get FWD.
A 2010+up Subaru Legacy Touring. We no longer get the Legacy wagon in the US. Only the big wallowing Outback - which is itself de-contented and re-configured poorly for the US market. And why, Subaru, have you not offered the 2.0 Turbo Diesel in the USA? Have you not noticed that VW sells every single TDI they can ship over here, and never with any discounts or incentives?
Hey Audi... how about offering the US the 3.2 V6 or 2.0 TDI paired with a 6-speed manual and Quattro in either the A3 or A4 Avant?
because of the kind of driving I usually do, I like little European cars. I'm a fan of the fiat 500, the mini cooper S (what I'm driving now) and when I need to haul cargo, something like the original Subaru Forester.

the difference between rental cars and 4x4's is that a rental car will go anywhere. [evil]
I flipped a jeep in Nevada twice, drove it to the side of the road and told the insurance company I pushed off the road....of course I took the full insurance out. :o

I once left a rented Trans Am in Tampa Bay....
the actual Bay....not the town....I left it on the sand but the tide came in later that night...
the rear tire exploded in the sand and tore out the entire back of the rear quarter panel
it was dry when I left it there...
boy they were pissed when they hauled it out of the water the next morning and even more pissed when they saw the quarter panel
water sluicing out of all the cracks and seams....like a boat being trailered
they really went nuts when I asked them for another car [thumbsup]

Quite violently....we were having traction issues and as a result had the gas pedal to the floor, tach and speedo needles buried....the laws of heat and friction took over...keep in mind hard packed damp coral sand....
that's kinda what i thought. mashing the gas pedal... [thumbsup]
