Title: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005(pics) Post by: Cucciolo on May 28, 2008, 08:44:23 PM Once again I resort to my fellow ducatista friends for advise.
I want to get a more upright position and put less stress on my wrists. (carpel tunnel on right hand) I have an S4R 2005 and would like a more relaxed position than what I have now (NO RISERS AND MAGURA BARS) 1) What handlebars and bar risers do you recommend? 2) Also, what grips reduce vibration or increase comfort? THANKS ALL P.S: I edited the original post bcause I thought I had small risers.. well silly me..they aren't. It is stock! [bang] Title: Re: Need advise pls Post by: Popeye the Sailor on May 28, 2008, 08:47:31 PM Do you have the stock ones on now?
Title: Re: Need advise pls Post by: DoubleEagle on May 28, 2008, 09:03:12 PM Can you rotate the bars to a more comfortable position ? I did that with one of my S4Rss.
Title: Re: Need advise pls Post by: Cucciolo on May 28, 2008, 09:06:54 PM I have the stock ones on with bar risers.
I already rotated the bars towards the tank the most I could. Anymore and the controls will touch the tank when I turn and lock the wheel. [bang] Title: Re: Need advise pls Post by: Popeye the Sailor on May 28, 2008, 09:08:29 PM I'm of no use, but if you find something that works better, I need a set of the bars you have (assuming they ain't bent). I would buy them off you.
Title: Re: Need advise pls Post by: Dareduc on May 28, 2008, 09:08:56 PM Sell it and buy the 696... that thing is as comfortable as a BJ when it comes to riding position. If not... a buddy of mine had some custom bars made because he too has carpul... he even got his med insurance to pay for it (don't ask me how) but they were not that expensive, and he can ride FOREVER now.

I will post my thoughts on it tomorrow evening.Title: Re: Need advise pls Post by: herm on May 28, 2008, 11:14:39 PM i put renthal street fighter bars on my first monster, and it made a big difference in terms of riding position (weight on wrists, etc...)
dont ask me what i have on my current bike....... Title: Re: Need advise pls Post by: Big Troubled Bear on May 28, 2008, 11:26:34 PM Renthal bars are really nice, and if your local supplier are willing you can try out different configurations until you are happy [thumbsup]
Title: Re: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005 (pics) Post by: Cucciolo on May 29, 2008, 11:03:40 PM I have the MAGURA handlebars. Will the Rizoma conical bars be higher than the Magura ? I can't find specs to compare [bang]
Title: Re: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005(pics) Post by: 55Spy on May 30, 2008, 01:31:44 AM I don't think magura ever published specs on the monster bar, I looked for quite some time.
Title: Re: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005(pics) Post by: Cucciolo on May 30, 2008, 06:33:50 PM I couldn't either. They area a great looking handlebar.. I was happy that my S4R had them :) I will try a bar riser first. To see if that may help me get a more comfortable ride. ..that should have been my first step Thanks all!
Oh.. and I test rode the 696 yesterday.. I will post what I think on the 696 appreciation thread. Title: Re: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005(pics) Post by: asado on May 30, 2008, 07:57:36 PM Had the Rizoma but i switched back to stock. Its a tad higher than stock and the sweep angle is a bit closer to your body. It was comfortable but I prefer the stock bars.

First I got the SpeedyMoto risers, made it a lot better. Then rotating the bars upwards, even a little better. The only thing missing now is the sweep that ASADO has shown us (thanks again A) to allow my wrists their "total" comfort - I even think that with the risers I might not need to adjust the steering stops.
This is how I see it, for me. You might need other mods, just thought my experiences could be useful? Title: Re: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005(pics) Post by: Cucciolo on May 31, 2008, 05:55:40 PM (http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/236/img1685gs3.jpg) Thank you ASADO (like to grill?) for this picture. It really helps to see the difference between stock and rizoma.. assuming that you had the MAGURA bars as stock bars that is. I have +16mm risers on my S4Rs with MV Agusta Brutale handlebars. The Brutale bar has more rise and pullback. It's funny that I read somewhere that a brutale owner got the MAGURA bars for his MV :) I had to have Spiegler build +3" brake and clutch lines (very fast, very reasonable prices) and Barnet build a +3" throttle cable (ditto) to reach properly. If I do the risers only, will I have to get longer clutch and throttle cables? Which risers are the tallest/better and where can I buy them? I've seen some risers with a triple clamp and others that are just blocks. What is better? Thank you for the help you guys ROCK!!! [thumbsup] Title: Re: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005(pics) Post by: stopintime on May 31, 2008, 06:02:27 PM SpeedyMoto are
On my S2R no problems, but I've heard that can change from model to model - even sometimes within a model year. Title: Re: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005(pics) Post by: Cucciolo on May 31, 2008, 06:06:06 PM SpeedyMoto are 31mm and come with the stabilizing(?) top clamp. They look great, IMO, but they aren't cheap. On my S2R no problems, but I've heard that can change from model to model - even sometimes within a model year. I saw.. they are pricey... I am on a budget now.. what about the risers that look like blocks.. any good? where to get them? that was a quick reply.. thank you !!! Title: Re: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005(pics) Post by: stopintime on May 31, 2008, 06:17:26 PM Genmar is a cheaper option, on sale "everywhere" including e-bay. Separate top clamps are also available, can't remember from where. Do a search?
Title: Re: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005(pics) Post by: Cucciolo on May 31, 2008, 07:00:34 PM You can *just barely* make out the +16mm one-piece riser in this picture; it's much nicer than the "add-on" blocks. If you want, I'll take a clearer picture of these risers and post it, and I will also try to review my eBay feedback to see if I can determine who the seller was. Tim It would be really helpful to see that picture.. thank you~ and if you find the seller on ebay,, that's great too. How much did you spend on that? I looked at the auction. Are those the same ones you have and do not use? it will sure look ugly if the color is too off! (note that with the new speedymoto triple tree, using the stock bar and riser will drop the height about .25 inch) My guesstimate is that the Rizoma bar's rise is about 1 inch higher than stock. The most drastic difference is in the sweep angle.

Why did you go back to stock bars? Did the dramatic sweep back with the rizoma bother you ?
THanks SOOOO much for the pics ASADO!! Title: Re: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005(pics) Post by: Cucciolo on June 01, 2008, 09:39:41 AM oh.. and did you have to drill holes and what not to get the rizoma bars properly installed? If you did.. I may have to have my local dealer install them.., I would not want to mess it up.
Title: Re: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005(pics) Post by: asado on June 02, 2008, 08:32:53 AM oh.. and did you have to drill holes and what not to get the rizoma bars properly installed? If you did.. I may have to have my local dealer install them.., I would not want to mess it up. I just shaved the buttons/knobbies off the controls and wrapped the area where the controls will mount with electrical tape. Also, you will need to adjust the steering stops to prevent the controls/bar from hitting the tank. Buy a six pack and do it yourself. Title: Re: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005(pics) Post by: Cucciolo on June 02, 2008, 06:56:15 PM you are right TIm.. it does look kind of funky.. I see what you are saying. I'll check later to see your picture.
Thanks TIM Title: Re: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005(pics) Post by: Cucciolo on June 02, 2008, 07:08:33 PM Tim.. where did you buy the brutale bars? They look like they are a lot taller than the rizoma bars which would eliminate the need for a riser.. the sweep may help a lot ...... I rode 100 miles today and my wrists are SORE..
Are the Brutale bars a 7/8 in the middle or a perfct fit for the S4R.. (fatter in the middle) I found this brutale bars on ebay Italy http://cgi.ebay.com/manubrio-Brutale-MV-Agusta-originale-handlebar_W0QQitemZ280231723586QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item280231723586&_trkparms=72%3A552%7C39%3A1%7C65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14#ebayphotohosting Title: Re: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005(pics) Post by: Travman on June 07, 2008, 08:23:36 AM I have the stock bars and the GenMar risers. I think the risers definitely help relieve stress on my wrists, but only by about 20%. I still get tired wrist after just a few minutes of riding.

Title: Re: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005(pics) Post by: Cucciolo on June 07, 2008, 10:49:23 AM The stock bars on the 620 have a nice hight (if those are the stock)! The Magura Stock for S4R are much lower.. I will post a picture of the Brutale bars I bought when I install them!
Thanks for the post! Title: Re: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005(pics) Post by: stopintime on June 07, 2008, 04:02:13 PM I wish they made risers with some pullback built into them. "they" do make those - angled 45 degrees backwards - might be too close to the tank? I'm sorry I can't remember where, but I saw them during a search for risers. Are you sure it's not the sweep you need? Should be easy to find out - if your wrists are just a LITTLE angled to "fall in place" it might be painful = dangerous/distracting = less value of riding. Title: Re: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005(pics) Post by: Travman on June 09, 2008, 05:22:36 PM Yes those are stock bars (that have been sanded with 320 grit sandpaper to remove the shine).
Stopintime, I think you may be correct that my wrists are angled wrong. Maybe those 45 degree pullback risers along with a flatter bar may do the trick. Title: Re: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005(pics) Post by: stopintime on June 09, 2008, 05:32:44 PM Yes those are stock bars (that have been sanded with 320 grit sandpaper to remove the shine). Stopintime, I think you may be correct that my wrists are angled wrong. Maybe those 45 degree pullback risers along with a flatter bar may do the trick. The Rizoma bars for S*R bikes mentioned here (or in other posts) has about an inch and a half rise AND a sweep back. That might be perfect for MY wrists. Don't know if your needs are the same - or if Rizoma bars for your bike compares the same way with your stock bars. Might be worth checking into? Title: Re: Need advise on Handlebars S4R 2005(pics) Post by: Cucciolo on June 09, 2008, 05:41:44 PM I just bought brutale handlebars! I haven't installed them yet, but I can see how they will help a lot. They are tall and angled back. I will post pics when on the bike!
