I am a NASCAR fan, yes I admit it. However, I do have all my teeth and my family tree has branches, so I'm a bit different than many fans.
What do you think about Danika's chances in the Nationwide 300 Saturday? Personally, believe that if she was a dude, she wouldn't be getting a ride because she has not been all that great at Indy cars. It took Montoya several years to become a top ten driver in NASCAR and he was dominant in the Indy cars.
As for the 500 on Sunday, well it's always crazy because almost anybody can win with all of the drafting and wrecking.
My favorite driver is Jeff Gordon because he always seems to keep his fenders clean and find his way to the finish line in the top ten. In order to finish first, first you must finish.
That being said, Gordon didn't qualify that fast. I'm picking the elder statesman, Mark Martin for the win.
What do you think?
I think they'll turn left.

montoya raced CART, actually*... and he
did spend six years turning right before coming back to roundy round.

Last weeks race set the tone for me..............boring.
I'm a NASCAR fan too, and I think Danika will have a tough time getting beat around by the other cars. After she throws a few temper-tantrums, Danika Mania will probably die off. There have been a lot of "World Class" drivers who make the move to NASCAR and couldn't cut it.
QuoteAs for the 500 on Sunday, well it's always crazy because almost anybody can win with all of the drafting and wrecking.
Agreed, but it will probably be whoever has the least damaged car that will win. With the rule changes on bump drafting and the green/white/checker finish, I think it's gonna be a wreckfest. I'm predicting three Big Ones.

A lot of the teams use these "exhibition races" more for a free test session than to win the race.

It's a little known concept to NASCAR drivers.
It's done in most motor sports worth watching.

I agree, most of the early races are for track time. To me, the 500 is a major thrill ride. I do agree, however, that some of the races like Phoenix and Texas can be boring until the last 50 laps.

I stopped watching NASCAR shortly after they introduced that incredible performance car, the Ford Taurus. Now that I have to constantly hear about one win Danica and how great she if for the sport, I don't think I'm going to start watching unless she starts racing in a nomex bikini.

She does look good in a bikini 8)
Her name is actually Danica.
I hope that she does well, but might be a bit over her head. I've actually hung out with her a few times, along with her husband. She is actually a very nice person and not what she gets portrayed as, but then again, she is very competitive.
I hope she does well and doesn't get herself injured or hurt someone else.
I am still a bit surprised that Andretti-Green who "owns" her actually let her sign this contract to race in a Nascar series based on risk of injury and loss of their golden child which brings them much publicity.
I rarely watch NASCAR, but will tune in to see her race tomorrow.
Montoya sucked ass his first year in NASCAR, I am not sure how she will be competitive tomorrow, but we shall see.
Open Wheel and NASCAR are such completely different racing styles.

Here is what I despise about Montoya; [bang] every other time I see him race, he goes over the edge and wrecks somebody else because he is overly aggressive. Last year he settled down a bit, but he was still over the top as far as driving cleanly is concerned. [bang] Every driver has had his share of mistakes, but Montwrecko has five times his share. If I were a NASCAR driver, I would look to hook his bumper and spin him out. On purpose. And I would feel no remorse. [clap]

Yeah, he took out his teamate, Scott Pruett to win that race. Bottom line is it's not easy to win a NASCAR race. Ask any of the former open wheel drivers, and they will tell you. Montoya, Allmendinger, Hornish, Speed, Said etc. have never won a Cup race on an oval. Max Papis was in tears after he qualified for the 500.

I think he has won plenty of Cup Races.
Not to mention he grew up racing USAC, CART/IRL, and then moved to NASCAR.
If I remember correctly, he won the Brickyard a few years ago.............

Sure I have, but Jeff Gordon came up through USAC as well and has been more succesful than Tony. They did it early on in their career though, and imho are better drivers than the above mentioned. My point is it's not as easy to turn right to go left as people think. ;)

A wreck in Nascar usually means about 10 cars out.
spaced too close together unlike Indy Cars where there are gaps.

I only saw the last 2 laps, 1 restart I guess, but didn't know what lead up to it. Was it crashes or the track surface?
I turned it off after the pot hole delay, and only flipped it back on when I went online to see who won and saw unbelievably it wasn't over yet.

I believe NASCAR has a rule that a race can't end under caution, so if there is a wreck within the last two laps, they re-start to two laps.
I don't watch it enough to know the exact rule, but briefly remember the commentators discussing something like this.
I guess the rule was put in to add more excitement to the end of the race as nobody wants to see a race end under yellow.

There is a new rule on the green/white checkered finish for this year.
NASCAR announced Thursday prior to the running of the Duel Qualifying races a revision to their procedures that allow a maximum of three attempts at a green-white-checkered flag finish. The revision went into effect immediately. Under the rule if the leader has taken the white flag and the caution is displayed, the field is frozen and the field will not be restarted. Previously there was only one attempt at the green white checkered
