That is my plan as long as I won't be out of town for work.  Want to ride up from San Bernardino.  ROAD TRIP.  Would love to join up with someone else who might be heading up.  Otherwise I'll fly solo.  Hope it works out...work schedule's very unpredictable.

*cough*  i will have to excuse myself from this thread and apologize for terrible eyesight and/or lack of reading comprehension...    I read this as "is anyone coming TO santa barbara"...  I didn't realize this was basically in SF.  damn... n/m.  (sorry, failboat)

Don't matter to me. You wanna take the 101 all the way up or you wanna do Hwy 1 for a while. The PCH will be slow and tiring, but its fun as hell. As far as slabs go the 101 ain't bad.

One option would be to take the 154 out of Santa Barbara and then pick up the 101 (always lots of cops on 154, I drive it every day)

Another option would be to take the 101 out of Santa Barbara (nice cruise next to the ocean) and cut over on the PCH towards Lompoc and pick the 101 back up in Arroyo Grande.

OR we could cruise the 101 all the way up to San Luis Obispo and catch the PCH there. We would pretty much be locked in to the PCH at that point but it take us through Big Sur which is beautiful. Your appetite for passing RVs around corners has to be high though. Otherwise it will take all make the beast with two backsing day.

OR we could take the 101 up to Salinas and cut over to the 1 there.

OR we could do some combination thereof.

OR we could just start riding and figure out the route as we go.

OR we could just say make the beast with two backs it and stay in Santa Barbara and get drunk.

I might be up for that, if you don't mind some company.  Pretty sure I have friday off work.  Not sure if I can get a night or two off from the family for the whole DIMBY trip.  Much more difficult to get approval for that.

If you guys end up on the 101 and come through SLO you have to stop and say hi. There's decent cheap food to be had. Gas ain't so cheap though but it seems to only get more expensive as you head north.

Totally down for some company!  Is there a way we might meet up with the main group in Santa Barbara or something? (mini-socal group ride get-together thing before larger DIMBY?)  My knowledge of freeways is pretty terrible outside of LA...

What time are you guys planning on starting your run? If the other guys are trying to make SF in one shot, then they are gonna be up and out early cause it takes a good 8 hours up the 101 to SF (from LA, maybe 6 from SB?) w/o taking any back roads and keeping it around the speed limit. (Remember guys, King City is known as a speed trap.)

I guess if you ride out with them in the morning, you could split off in Buelton and run out to Solvang for the museum and then runt he 33 home.

If we have a group that will stop in Solvang we can take the 154 out of Santa Barbara up to the 101. Perhaps lunch in Santa Ynez before we press on to DIMBY.

Just a reminder-I'm not in San Francisco-I'm about an hour south of it. I'm also closer to 1 than 101. Not that 101 would be bad (more twisties that way), but some of you may be tired.

Google map out "Loma Mar" and that be me. It's in the middle of nowhere.

Alright, you LA kids work it out on your own, but the train from Santa Barbara is pulling out of the station no later than 11:00am on Friday, May 28. I will be stopping in Santa Ynez for lunch then pressing on to Loma Mar with minimal stops.

that works for me.  I'm in OC, so probably better if I meet everyone somewhere.  Seems like I'm out of the way for everyone else to come my direction.

So are we going to leave at by 11 am or earlier now?

It looks like we have a couple of people coming up to Santa Barbara on Thursday night so we may get up earlier and take a longer route if that is what people want to do.

Anyone is welcome to come up to SB on Thursday night and ride up with us on Friday. My house is small but you are free to crash where ever you can find room.

You two wanna swing through SLO and pick ups SLOduc and myself? We'll just be tagging along for the trip up and then go home though. He can't be away from the family too long and I work too much to be away that long.

I haven't seen him in awhile. He and the flounders had a misunderstanding or something. Don't really know the details, don't want to speculate.  He has his own board, socaldmc.com

Could I please get an update on the route you guys are running? I've got Fridays off now! Weeee! Dunno when I work on Saturday, though. Usually around noon but I won't find out until the week before.

So if you guys are running from SB at 11:30 at the latest it'll put you in SLO by 1:30 if you run straight up the 101 w/ no detours. Nice timing for a late lunch and you (well, I) can make it on a single tank. It'd be nice if you guys left earlier, though. You won't make it to Lomar until late if you leave SLO at 1:30 and take the 1.  :-\

Oh, and I do work at Days Inn now so if anyone wants to stay a night in SLO I can see what I can do. It is memorial day weekend after all. Otherwise I've only got floor space and a garage. Also the same reason why I can't miss work on Saturday.

I'll be staying at Sac's place thurday night, so we'll most likely get on the road well before 11:30am. Details will have to be worked out, but I'm up for anything... 

Since Mr. Bacon is coming up Thursday I figure we will get on the road by 8 or 9 depending on the severity of the hangover.

Hopefully we'll meet up with bobspapa in Santa Maria then make our way to SLO.

Ahem. It is true. Its just you and me ol' chap. I mean jeepers, you don't really expect people to ride for 6-8 hours in one day do you? You'd need to pack a lunch or something crazy like that. And the weather lately! It might get below 60 in the morning! You'd have to wear thick gloves or something. How many stitches? Where? And how many days before the ride were they put in?



If you think a couple of days wages is worth more than a couple of days riding up the coast I suggest you do that calculation over again.

4 stitches and a cut tendon on Sunday. On Wednesday the doc had me in this big splint that pretty much keeps me from using my left hand.

What the hell am I talking about, I didn't go either. I just wanna see the wound!

I really was tempted to take some crappy cell phone pics before they took out the stitches but opted not to.  [roll] It's got this sticky, stretchy bandage on it now that I can't take off w/o cutting it and I don't have any replacement. If you're looking at your left hand palm up, the cut goes from the left top of the first joint to the mid right on the side of the finger along the joint. I think it was actually 5 stitches but what's one stitch among friends.  :P At that joint there are 3 tendons: 1 main one that goes the whole length of the finger and 2 smaller ones that only go from the base to the 2nd joint. I totally cut through a small tendon and might have knicked the main one.

Eh, that's cause I didn't say.  :P I was taking a plate of food out of the microwave w/ my left hand and putting a bowl of food in w/ my right hand. Somehow the two made contact and the plate shattered. Didn't know the plate was glass.  :-\ Surprisingly little blood loss at the time. Partially cut a nerve too. Can't feel the very tip of my finger.

Shark attack.

Rabid dog bite.

Crazy ex.

Barfight with broken bottles.

Even reenacting the "Beat it" video would all be better stories.  ;)

Most cities have community programs for financial aid for uninsured. Here in SLO it's called CMSP. Application deadline is 7 working days here in SLO! Get to it!

Be sure to embellish the story in the future.

The hospital's financial adviser called me yesterday and asked if I filled out "The Packet."
