Title: WD40 on rear break - how to clean
Post by: pzarand on June 12, 2010, 05:57:23 PM
I might have accidentally sprayed a little WD40 on my rear breaks now it does not break at all.
How can I clean it?

Option b) is that it has an other problem.

Thanks for any suggestion.

A 'little' WD40 shouldn't completely eliminate braking.  I'd pull the pads and give them a quick clean with brake cleaner and some 80-100 grit w/d sandpaper and give the rotor a quick clean as well.  Reinstall and re-bed them.

...and while you're at it bleed them.

That's probably all that's wrong.

clean the rotor with rubbing alcohol and a clean towel. i would sand the pads. if you have a scrap piece of wood, staple the sand paper to the wood to have a flat surface. then run the pads over the sandpaper.

I believe both are correct.

The brake/break thing is a pet hate of mine, as are misused apostrophes.

Just to add fuel to the fire, irregardless is in the dictionary.

just like when people use "loser" and "looser" in correctly.

its not "he is a looser, because he beats his wife", its "he is a loser, because he beats his wife"...

the correct way to use that word is "the second bolt is looser than the first bolt and should be tightened" NOT "the second bolt is loser than the first bolt and should be tightened"

I hate it when people use apostrophes incorrectly, it's annoying. Capitals are good too.

Will this ever end?  ;D

[cheeky] yes you are right it will never ever end. yes the incorrectly was incorrect in my last posting and i never capitalize sentences on the forum boards, too much time.  yes good call on the "its" also, that was my bad.   [laugh] [laugh] [clap] [clap]

Why not...

parents legitimize obesity and laziness.

I'd go farther but I'd break board rules.

Regarding the OP's primary concern, the brakes - I've accidentally sprayed WD on the rear and front brakes since that is what I use to clean the dust from the rims. It's quite difficult to avoid. WD40 will evaporate, it's no big deal. Wipe it off the best you can and ride it. I've never lost my brakes from accidentally spraying WD40 on the discs. Might be a bit slippery the first couple of times you use them but the friction comes back quickly.

You can say "spelt" if you like, but unless you're referring to the hexaploid species of wheat, it's spelled "spelled".  Even in Australia  :)

I was once half-watching the Jets lose a decade or two back....John Madden's co-sportscaster was blathering on about some stats and Madden wasn't paying attention....then the co-anchor turned to him and asked "What's your analysis John?"

The look of shock, confusion and horror on Madden's face was priceless....Madden thought his partner was asking him about urinalysis...I had to wipe my beer spray off the screen
