If Cyrus won't, I will. ;D

As for working in the woods, Whites were considered the best, certainly the most expensive but I'm a westcoast boot guy. Ya gotta love their web site http://www.westcoastshoe.com/wesco/home.asp (http://www.westcoastshoe.com/wesco/home.asp) Keep em greased and they don't leak even working in the Northwest all week rain. Stylish too, ya can wear em for dancing and impress the ladies.
I wear a Red Wing Worx 5266, non-metallic toe for work.
I wear Cole Haan shoes Monday - Thursday and my ducati puma's on Friday's for jeans day. I am a rebel.
during my landscaping days I think I wore steel toed boots that I got at a tractor supply store.
Maybe Wolverines? I can't remember.
Doc Martins. English made vs. Chinese made.
;D
Corcoran Marauder in the AF approved Sage green.
Back in the BDU days it was Corcoran All-Leather Jump boots, or Marauders in the black, both with toe polished to a mirror shine with nothing but kiwi wax, water, and a cotton ball. ;D
kiwi wax rocks [thumbsup]
I like to use saddle soap first and then bring to a nice shine with the kiwi
I have had a thing for New Rock boots for years...good spanish built high quality shit kickers that just look kinda mean!
I'm a big fan of Doc Martins. Always hold up very well and extremely comfortable.
Plus I can get steel toed boots that can look like dress shoes. That way when I go out to the bars I always have a weapon.
A quote from a friend of mine.. "You can't be no playa if you ain't got your Timboz!" (Timberlands) I've owned a few pairs of those and have liked them all. Heard great things about Gripfast, except theyre hard to find. I've yet to try any. Same goes for Doc Martins. Oh.. and I love my Sidi's. Awesome boots! saved my ass (feet) on a couple of occasions!

I am going to agree and disagree on the quality of doc's
I got my first pair in 1996, standard brown doc martens. I still have them today and still look new when I take the time to clean them up. They are about due for a new set of soles.
I bought a pair of black ones in 2000 and they have literally disintegrated. They are still wearable, but the stitching on the top sucks.
Very disappointed in the quality of those shoes. I hope they have cleaned up their quality control since.
I've always wanted these, but can't find them locally to try on to get my size:

Don't use the steel toes in a fight bro...........always keep a glass ash tray nearby (if you are outside since you can't smoke inside anymore).
One of those suckers in the palm of your hand is a great bar weapon [thumbsup]
(no first hand experience, just heard they are)
Red Wings rule.
I have a pair of steel-toes I got from my last employer. I wear them everyday (still required to wear steelies in certain areas with the current gig) and they are some of the most comfortable footwear I've owned.
^^^
That's the brand I used to own!!!!
i wonder whatever happened to those; my Mom probably threw them away >:(
Nicks...
tried all the others (whites, wesco, redwing, and the lesser brands too)
Don't know if you can get them in the States but RM Williams are make the beast with two backsen superb. http://www.rmwilliams.com.au/springsummer/index.html (http://www.rmwilliams.com.au/springsummer/index.html)
One more question, slip ons or lace up? I prefer slip ons as laces get all manner of crap on them which eventually ends up on your hands.

Loved my Doc Martins before the production base moved to China. Bought 1 pair made in China, only lasted 1 year. I non longer buy Doc Martins, or Clarks for that very reason either
Belleville.
Whites all the way.
I've got three pairs, Calked loggers, the Farmer and a pair of Pac boots.
The only thing to put on them is Obenauf's, the best boot grease bar none.
I live 40 minutes from Whites so i just go up and have them measure me out and
make a pair just for me. My loggers are 25 years old and still tougher than hell.

When did they move production to China?
Curious as I had some from the mid 90's and then some from 2000

+1 on the Obenaufs....there really is nothing else worth putting on boots.
i have three pair of Nicks "hotshots"
1 pair of whites (cant remember which ones, they're really old..)
1 pair of whites pack boots
and for the uninitiated, we are talking about something in the area of 400.00 per pair for these boots (Nicks or whites)
Our local boot manufacturer - 10 miles from here - http://www.russellmoccasin.com/ (http://www.russellmoccasin.com/) They've been making boots for over 100 years.
I have a couple pair but I can't say they are worth the money.
I have been pretty happy with Wellco for work wear.
For playing in the snow, I have a 26 year old pair of Sorels that will outlive me.
Vasque used to be good, now are junk IMO (europe to china for manufacturing).
Leather hiking boots made in Italy are my favorites (old school Scarpa for example).
Eastern European countries are pretty good (LL bean has a decent leather hiking boot the Cresta I am wearing this year)
I would like to try a Made in the USA hiking boot, but they are very hard to find if not impossible.
mitt
Are La Sportiva's still Italian made?
Always had a hard on for a pair in college, but the pair I wanted were like 300$ which equaled a lot of Jim Beam and cheap beer.

When I worked in the woods in OR the debate was Westcoast vs Whites, just like our Stihl vs Husky debate in the chainsaw thread. Since Westcoast was our local brand, it was the more common boot. Back in the day, I took my wife to the Westcoast factory to have her fitted for a custom pair of boots. The owner himself came out to do the fitting. The building looked like it dated back to the Lewis and Clark first visit to OR. After the owner measured my wifes left foot I started asking him about the company. I was fascinated and kept asking questions until we had to leave. My wife always claimed that the fit of her right foot was slightly off and it was because I asked the owner so many damn questions while he was measuring that foot. I am no longer married to that woman. I just couldn't stand all that complaining about her boots.
I still have a pair of Westco boots and a pair of Danner Calks. Which for those of you who don't know what those are, they are logging boots with thin spikes coming out the soles. They look a bit like the bottom of golf shoes with sharpened spikes. The tops come thigh high. Most manly thing I own, next to my chain saw [laugh] [laugh]

Working construction I wear Rocky's.
Working with horses I wear Ariat. On horse, I wear custom Effinghams (damn wide calfs).
Both pair of my [moto] boots are Sidi's.
I have been wanting to pick up a nice pair of cowboy/roper boots for a few years. Have yet to find a pair that I can't live without. I gonna keep looking till I do.

I've got myself a nice pair of Redwing Iron Rangers. Not a work boot persay, they're in their "lifestyle" collection. Flat leather sole on the bottom, cut from an old pattern. Cap toe as well. Love them. Took 3 months to break in properly though. Love them now. Absolutely love them. Miss wearing them... too hot in the summer.

For work; 5.11 ATAC 9". Good strong boot that's light enough to wear all day, and I like the side zipper.
Wet winter weather; Redhead RH2200 12". Totally waterproof, and warm warm warm.
Nicks Hotshot boot. I always use the 14" upper for better calf support while hiking the mountains. and leather laces, of course. [thumbsup]

Mother has had his LaCrosse Wildland Fire boots for over five years and has used them for just about everything (duty boot, wildland boot, EMT boot, moto boot). They are just now needing to be resoled.
I like my Danner duty boot for responding to calls. I use Ariat for working horses too DD.

Sorry to all the Italians, I don't really mean what I say, I love Italians.
I need a good pair of work boots.. something I can wear 12 hrs a day and go through hot ass roof tops and buried in snow.. comfortable but tough with at least a half inch heel... I'm use to wearing timbs but need something else..
I gots me a new pair of danners

They are made by danner now
danner quality dropped off about 6 years ago when they got rid of their lifetime warranty
but I still like em
they aren't whites but they are good enough for what I do and I figure 7 years per pair is worth the 300 bucks

For hiking boots, I have a few friends who love their Limmer's. They offer both stock and custom fit. I haven't tried them personally, but am about ready for a new pair and plan to check them out. They are a New Hampshire company, but I think stock boots are outsourced.

Lowa Trekkers w, glove leather lining.

Hands down the most comfortable pair of boots I have ever owned.
Bought in Austria in 1994, retired in 2000.
Still kicking myself for tossing them, instead of trying to get them resoled. [bang]
I have had two other pair of Lowa's since and neither came close to the Trekker in comfort.

I have some red wings that are on their second set of soles. I bet I have had them for at least 6 years now. They get used pretty hard.
Here's a story I remember getting these cheap boots from Payless shoe source back in the early 80's When I first started working. We were working a Job in the Trinity Alps (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Ramshorn+peak,+Trinity,+CA&sll=41.154973,-122.593775&sspn=0.019387,0.045447&ie=UTF8&ll=41.107942,-122.572746&spn=0.074372,0.181789&z=13) and three of us bought the same boot. So during the course of 1 week, walking through the woods, over rocks, on side slopes and wading through water. These things literaly came apart at the seams. Now that sounds like a cliche but it wasn't. The stitching was coming out..everywhere, and when that happened they started to fall apart. I could see my socks! The insoles also started coming apart. It seems that the insoles were made of corrigated cardboard. No Joke, I had never seen anything like it. After 1 week the only thing in one piece was the sole and even those had a few lugs broken off.
It seems like i went and bought some Santa Rosa's that lasted me a couple of years after that.
