Title: new tire needed, where to go? Post by: r_ciao on August 07, 2010, 12:36:15 PM I checked the local resources area of the board, but there isn't listed any place for tires (unless I'm blind, which I've been accused of).
It's time for a new one so I'm looking for recommendations on where to get the tire changed. I don't have the tools nor the knowledge nor the desire to remove the wheel/tire so I'm looking for a place that I can ride to and wait for it. I'm in the East Bay near I-580 and I-680. As far as tire recommendations, I'm a novice rider and this first rear tire lasted 5700 miles over two years. Obviously NOT tearing up the roads. So if any of the knowledgeable ppl out there care to recommend a long lasting tire, that'd be great. How long should a rear tire last anyway? Ciao! Title: Re: new tire needed, where to go? Post by: desmoquattro on August 07, 2010, 01:08:25 PM Depends on how you ride, your bike, etc. I get maybe 3000 out of a rear on the superbike, many more on my 2 valver.
I can't vouch for places in the east bay, but most decent shops (e.g. Nichols out by you) can do tires. Title: Re: new tire needed, where to go? Post by: somegirl on August 07, 2010, 01:11:18 PM I've gotten tires done at Subterranean Cycles in SF and Santa Clara Cycles in the South Bay. Sorry no closer recommendations for you.
I got over 10k out of my Pilot Road 2's. They work great in the rain and the twisties as well. Title: Re: new tire needed, where to go? Anyone know/use European Motorcycle Accessories in Pleasanton? http://www.ema-usa.com/ (http://www.ema-usa.com/) They're open M-F so I might go there just so I can go to Santana Row on Monday night. Title: Re: new tire needed, where to go? Post by: Gimpy on August 08, 2010, 08:01:37 AM Most will sell you a tire, but won't install it. The CG in Dublin will mount the rubber on the wheel if you bring the wheels in off the bike. Usually I can't get same day service. It depends how busy they are.I got over 10k out of my Pilot Road 2's. They work great in the rain and the twisties as well. 10k !!!! awesome. I have a little over 3k on mine and I love them. Not sure I will get the same amount of mileage out of them considering the amount of slab I ride. So far they are holding up great. Title: Re: new tire needed, where to go? Post by: MendoDave on August 09, 2010, 01:37:35 AM I used to go to KC engineering in the city. They do it while you wait.

Stay away from there at all costs. They've been known to sell plugged tires as new. Title: Re: new tire needed, where to go? I'm glad they didn't sell any to me. Title: Re: new tire needed, where to go? Post by: TCK! on August 10, 2010, 05:23:33 AM Does Jimbo's service department sell tires? He's down at Tri-Valley in Livermore: http://www.trivalleymoto.com/ (http://www.trivalleymoto.com/)
Title: Re: new tire needed, where to go? Post by: r_ciao on August 10, 2010, 08:59:13 AM Thanks all for the recommendations, esp. somegirl. I have found that since I am not taking the wheels off, it does limit me somewhat. All good recommendations, but I eventually ordered online (i.e. less expensive) and am having my Michelin Pilot Road 2's shipped to Subterranean Cycles in the City (http://www.subcycles.com/index.html (http://www.subcycles.com/index.html)), who happens to currently have a great deal for mounting. Not exactly close to me, but a ride to the city is always fun.

Sheesh. I've gone there a couple of times. How could they pass off a used/plugged tire as new?? Title: Re: new tire needed, where to go? Post by: Spidey on August 11, 2010, 11:25:38 AM They put it on your bike and tell you it is new.
Oh wait, were you asking rhetorically? ;D Title: Re: new tire needed, where to go? Post by: Michael Moore on August 11, 2010, 11:26:55 AM They put it on your bike and tell you it is new. Oh wait, were you asking rhetorically? ;D Um, but wouldn't the absence of greasy surface and rubber nubbins (I love that word) be kind of, um, obvious? Title: Re: new tire needed, where to go? Post by: Spidey on August 11, 2010, 11:36:02 AM Yes, if one weren't retarded. But have you taken a look at the general population lately?
