Actually, we could dedicate an entire thread just to tragically customized Hayabusas. Now and again I just peruse the 'Busa section of eBay, because it's always worth a chuckle.

Are these for real or photoshop jokes? Seriously, why would ANYONE do that to a bike?

The Predator 'Busa used to come up on eBay now and again for sale.

Actually, on any given day you can find 'Busas for sale that make you scratch your head and wonder why anyone would invest so much time and money in making it what it has become. Other makes and models get their share of questionable customization, but somehow the Hayabusa bears the brunt of it.

(And I love them all, in the same way I love a terrible movie, or particularly awful fiction writing. They're just so pure in their crapness. ;D )

I've heard they make really good long distance bikes...

Stock, they don't look too bad, but I always wondered why the 'busa seemed to get the lion's share of ugly/ridiculous/outlandish customizations...  (OCC and PJD notwithstanding)

Not that that makes it any less of a waste.

Tank/bodywork/etc. suggest it was once a 916 or 996. I can't tell from that picture if it had twin-pipe headers, so perhaps a 998.

Seems pretty unlikely it was ever a 999.

The stock busa is what it is.  Looks like c**p to some and great to others.  Then there are some people who just ignore the looks and buy the bike because of the performance.

But the bikes in the pictures in this thread...  ???

The Gulf streamliner isn't tragic like the others. Manges to get rid of some of the fugly of the stock trim. Though yeah, the passenger seat doesn't make much sense.

No, the Gulf paintjob carries the day.  Plus, that bike lacks the non-functional crappery festooned all over it like the other debacles in this thread.  It appears to actually be rideable.

The TapOut bike should get his same pass, but anything TapOut is clown sh*t so it doesn't.

Oh, I'll make fun of the douche-nugget who did that to a once beautiful machine such as a 9*6, 998, or a 999...

It just makes me sad because someone took a pretty machine and turned it into a turd...   :P

The 'busa was never a beauty queen, although for high speed touring/drag racing/land speed records, etc...  it's excellent, from what I've heard. (IMHO)

What I meant earlier, was that the Hayabusa seems to be the platform of choice (mostly) for ridiculous over-the-top custom jobbies...

I dig this one.

It's far from the most tragic, and perhaps it doesn't deserve to make the cut, considering those last two fine examples.

But...

What is the obsession with the ridiculously long swingarm? And 9/10ths of the custom 'Busas seem to nix a front disc. As though they're offended by the very idea of turning, or stopping.

Extended swingarms come from the Drag Racing world.

I understand its purpose in the context of drag racing.

But putting a huge swingarm on a road bike seems a bit like putting a gigantic spoiler on your commuter car.

That's a fail right there, simply because it keeps boobs out of your back  ;D

I understand its purpose in the context of drag racing.

But putting a huge swingarm on a road bike seems a bit like putting a gigantic spoiler on your commuter car.

It's the owners choice.

I'm so confused by that whole biker set.   ???

tigre's gonna be pissed that someone if f'n with his stipey mojo.

From that pic, it looks like her boobs will have no problem reachin' his back no matter how much that swingarm gets extended.

It's the owners choice.

I wasn't proposing we outlaw these practices, I was just voicing an aesthetic judgment about them.

No worries, they don't like your bike either.  :D

I suppose once they decide their bike is going to be a trailer queen, it becomes less a question of "why?" and more a question of "how long?"

Being the owner of a normal, sport touring Busa seeing what some of these yahoos do to these poor un-deserving, innocent scooters is really disturbing. It's like seeing someone chrome the frame and wheels of 999 and give it a flame paint job. It should be a second degree felony in all 50 states. >:(

The majority of Busa owners must think you're really poor or just a newb.. :-)

it looks like some of the 'show bikes' have armor all on the tyres.  that would
make for an interesting ride.

having had a dozen of busas, i still think they are the ugliest bikes on the planet
some people say that about the zx14, but i just love that bike...but there is just something about the busa that just turns me off.
they ride great, super comfy, and definitely are fast, but seem to attract all sorts of people that have no taste.
but without those people, we wouldn't have this thread LOL
