I went out to my car yesterday morning and my glove box was on my passenger seat with all my stuff spilled over the car too. The only difference is that I have a Wrangler with no doors on it at the moment and I didn't have anything worth stealing in it.

I remember hearing a story about a mother doing something similar to her own kid - she was charged with child abuse. Our legal system sucks!

see how your local beat cops feel about the kids in question.
I had huge problems with one kid when we lived in the city. Had Court orders against him from my own Court and Judges who knew me...they still wouldn't do anything.... we'd go to Court and he'd plead guilty for violating the Judge's order seven times, and the Judge's solution was to issue another order telling him not to do it instead of locking him up for even one day for contempt.
But the cops hated this kid too for the same reasons.
I watched in delight one time as three cops stopped him and questioned him one night on the corner. Little punk took a swing at one cop. They rubbed him into the bricks rather badly....and then walked off.
Normally I would hate behavior like that, and if I heard the story without being involved with the players I would be horrified.
I had the chance to bring some coffee out to one of the guys about a month later when I saw him in the area. I said I enjoyed the incident. He said he had no idea what I was talking about and smiled.
This kid didn't stop harassing us until one night I was up late and heard him on the sidewalk outside. I didn't turn on any lights but when I realized what he was doing I was amazed. I could hear him urinating on our side door (corner rowhouse, sidewalks up to the house on two sides). I opened the shade quickly and tapped on the window with the .45 he spun so quickly he pissed all over his girlfriend who was standing there with him (classy couple).
Never saw him again. Death threats stopped. Grafitti stopped. dents in the truck stopped.
people suck....and the authorities won't help you.
I need to go donate blood...... that will make my attitude better.
I was working at a house and every once in a while a buzzer would buzz. At first I didn't know what it was. Turned out he had an electric eye crossing his driveway and every time someone entered his property it would set the buzzer off.
I ask him about it and he said he caught a carload of guys one night and held them at gun point till the shiriff arived. They had several stolen items in there car and was looking for something else to take at his place.
Now I am thinking about doing something like that.

I didn't even bother locking mine. I would rather have the worthless crap that I bothered to leave in it stolen than have someone knife the windows or top to get in. The only thing ever stolen was a smaller MP3 player. Oh, that and my F'ING GAS. I kept noticing, "Man, I know this thing drinks gas but I'm pretty sure I had more than that. BP that really sucks big time. Did you try to get a police report? I would do that just so you have a complaint logged. I am continually amazed at the degradation of our youth. Kids have no respect anymore. Just the other day the cops arrested a 16 year old kid who was hiding on our dealership for a driveby. I am only 31 but I don't remember doing any of this kind of crap when I was that age. Oh and DaniD, You have a Ducati and a Wrangler? I think I love you.

Our neighborhood watch captain's wife saw it all. It was a hispanic male, about 25, and it happened at around 5:30am. She watched him open the door, sit in my driver seat, and start going through my shit. That lasted a few minutes, then, he got out of the truck, and went for the front door of the house. After checking to see if it was open, he then casually walked up the street.
and she didnt think to call the police >:(

I haven't noticed any gas missing, but I feel the same way about locking the doors and such (when they are actually on the car) I would much rather have them just open it and find out there's nothing in there than have to buy a new top or windows. My fiance however ALWAYS locks the door and it drives me crazy. He will even lock the door if I am in the car and he's outside talking to me before I drive off. Then I get to where I'm going and go to open the door and...doh...it's locked! I know he's just keeping me safe but it's a little irritating none-the-less.
pronto!
Sorry to hear, BP. I hate thieves
Last year some little twit pushed in a panel on my garage door and stole a bunch of tools. He used one saddlebag to carry the tools, leaving me with one. My neighbor the break in. Thought the predator was a a guest ??? A guest would have a key. I don't expect heroism over material goods. Just drop the dime.

I hate to say it Joel
but its pistola time....
odd though, you neighborhood doesn't strike me as a target one (for bako thieves)
With the mentality of "not locking your door so they don't break something" is just silly. Use this incident as an example, he tried the front door to the house and it was locked. He didn't break in he split, probably would've done the same if the car was locked. Thieves will go for the easier mark, that's just how it is.
Even if they break in rather than casually open the door at least then they might make noise that someone will hear or an alarm will go off. Hopefully someone who will take some action rather than watch the whole event unfold.
Sorry you lost your things BP it sucks. Personally I try not to leave anything in the car that if stolen I would get steamed about but I still lock the doors. Work for my garbage you thievin bastard! ;D

For a house or regular car, I totally agree. A wrangler takes two seconds to cut in to and barely anybody would even notice. Its better to just not keep valuables in it or in a secured box somewhere. Oh yeah, and you can't lock what isn't there for the summer time.

Those are the exception since Wranglers and convertibles won't make a noise when they get cut, unless they whimper.

Yes ma'am I have been to cali several times. In fact I will be there next week in the wonderful little town of Ontario. Unfortunately I will be there for business not pleasure which means that the monster has to stay home. :'(
I felt the same way before my carport was turned into a garage. Someone mangled my rear steel braided brake line on the Monster. Not sure why. Too a police report, because there had been some shady action in the surrounding neighborhoods. Didn't expect anything, but wanted it on record so if they caught someone slinking around there would be yet another incident to question them about ~

excellent point.
Officer Diaz (a very nice guy), said that there has been a guy,who kinda fits the perps look, that has been going around the east side of town, breaking into peoples homes durring daylight hours, even when people are home.
lm said that the "watch wife" didnt actually see him wander up the street, after he went to our door, not that it's a good excuse for not calling us. IMO.
lm and I went to Santa Monica last night, so we havent had a chance to talk to the neighbors as of yet, I'm sure that will happen tonight.
I talked to my brother yesterday, he had his house broken into a few weeks ago (he lives a couple of blocks away). Teen agers who live down the street from him did it, but have yet to be charged with anything.

Could she tell/suspect that this guy was headed for your front door? To me that is more alarming than her not doing anything while watching him get into your vehicle. For all she knew, he gained access to your house and was in there doing any number of things to you, family and/or belongings. That sickens me to think that she is involved with the neighborhood watch program and sat there and watched this unfold for what appears to be entertainment value.
On a side note, I am not familiar with the area that you live in, but it sounds to me that it would be a good idea for some sort of protection; whether it be an alarm, big angry dog or some sort of fire arm (just as long as the latter of the two come with some intense training).
Can someone -- kindly -- explain what it is that I am missing with this whole thing? Our neighbor comes upon the guy as he already has the truck door open and seems to be looking for something. She watches him, trying to make sense of what she's seeing. The guy is being totally nonchalant, acting like he belongs there, closes the truck door and then casually walks up to the front door and appears to go inside. All very low-key. Yes, it's 5:30 in the morning, but the sun is up and that is not an unreasonable hour for people to be up and getting ready for work. If the tables were turned, I'm nearly certain I would have done the same thing she did. If the guy doesn't look suspicious, I'm not going to be suspicious.
Maybe our Neighborhood Watch Group needs to meet like someone suggested. In the 2 1/2 years that I've lived here, the only reason I knew we had one was because on the window by my front door there was a sticker that came with the house and our NWC Captain came over and got my home and cell phone numbers and gave me back an updated list of the neighbors and their contact information. I do try to let him or one of the other neighbors know if we're going to be out of town, but I did that at my old house where there was no NWC.
