Just as a curiousity I was wondering what the top speed of the various Monsters are. I have an S4RS with a full system/airbox/ECU. I don't know how fast it will go but I've had it screaming and was wondering what the top end really is. That made me interested in the top speeds of all the various monsters. I know stock bikes will differ greatly from the ones with all the aftermarket goodies so I guess I'm looking for a ball park number. If I lived in the desert or something I might know what my personal top speed is. ;D
Well apparently M620's are the fastest.......... ;D
dont forget that the speedo is prolly off a bit (usually reads fast...)
hit 139 on the monster 696 last week. termi slip ons(full manifold not yet available) and 14T front sprocket are the only mods that might affect performance
My S2R 800 - 135 indicated on flat open roads.
Not that I've ever done this - it would be illegal - only in Germany where they have no speed limits on a few Autobahns.
As far as I've been able to establish, indicated is only about 2% higher than actual speed.(actual speed info signs on highways here, Norway)
Ducatis go 11ty Billion mph! [thumbsup]
wicked fast

Fast bike? You've never heard of the Ducati?
It's the bike that made the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs.
She's fast enough for you old man.
;D

You don't even have a Duc to speak of..why are you still here?!
BTW..you might be right.
/IZ doesn't have any SW lines to give up since he's never seen the triology or any of the crap prequals
Power required to overcome drag varies with the cube of velocity and a nekid bike like the monster has the aerodynamics of a cinder block.
If you get down under the paint, you can get about 150 mph out of an S4RS. [clap]
A parsec is about 11ty billion miles or 3.26 light years maybe - which ever comes first.

HE MAN----- you must be heavily moded. My stock S2R 1K hit 120 felt like it had more, but I doubt 160.

well your bike sucks cause mine is bone stock [laugh]
Pegged the nedle past 160 MPH many times.....On a private closed road course ;D
I think a realistic 150 MPH could be the top speed.
S4Rs stock gears, full Termignoni system.
"How fast does it go Tommy?"
"Like the wind." ;D
I get the "how fast does it go" question a lot.
I think the Monsters aren't about "top speed".
The lack of fairings is a good thing, I think. My bone stock Rs easily did 135+ on the straight at Portland International Raceway this spring. But it's kind of . . . annoying, for lack of a better word, at that speed. Pretty damn windy.
If I spool it up to 80 or 90 on a ride, I typically back off. All the fun is the trip from 0 to 75 anyway.
Kind of a built in speed regulator, so to speak.
I don't need any triple digit speeding tickets, thank you very much. My '02 ST4s was down right comfy at 120 mph. Could do that all day long. No vibes, no wind fatigue, stable as a rock. I miss that bike, but I'm kind of glad I don't have it anymore. I think it would have been only a matter of time before I got caught (or worse).
I'm not sure I want the temptation of a powerful faired bike anymore. Naked is fun. Naked is safest. Naked is best! ;D

Just a heads-up: speedos are notoriously inaccurate on motorcycles. (Except Harleys - they're usually dead-on accurate unless the bike's really modded)
When tested against radar guns (don't ask [roll]), my Monster speedo reads about 10% higher than the actual speed.
mine goes to eleven.
You mean no one mentioned yet that their 620 can do 140???? [popcorn]

They dont know about randall and the 620 capriex do they?
LOL This thread delivers !!! FWIW My S4RS ran an indicated 150 mph the last time I was whipping it good. There was some room on the tach still but I chickened out. With ear plugs in it is surreal how quiet it can be at that speed. I'm going to get a GPS unit soon so I can have the truest speed possible.
Dude,
I'm the last guy to be preachy about spirited riding (mea culpa), but I hope that you are doing that dime and a 1/2 at the track and not out in the world.

and rightly so - should have died w/ TOB. Never understood why that was so viral anyway... maybe funny for like a week but now it's just annoying when a thread about top speed can't go more than a page without someone coming in and dropping it like a turd [roll]

special modifications myself.
Are we talking stock....Because after installing my new flux capacitor.... I can't get past 88...
After chaning my sprockets around, I think my M750 hits about 105 top. Not sure though ~
JM
On the open road, managed 175Km on the 620, bounced to 185Km on the s2r 800, these are the top speeds but about as fast as I'd ever want to touch on public roads and only for a brief .5km at a time. On the same note as another rider I met once said ..... fast enough for me, and too fast for the popo!

'00 750, tops about 115 with 14t front sprocket and termi slip-ons
Found that out when I was riding with SHADOWCHASER and we had to run from a storm for 2 hours at top speed (at night). Well, at least I was at top speed. He was on his 1098.

wouldnt it be more interesting if we discussed how fast it took to get to,.....say 99mph?
reason i ask is, that is the fun part of the ride.
after that, its fighting with the wind, hoping the cops dont show, and trying to avoid stray dogs
plus, keeping it under 3 digits will keep you from jail time / loss of license in many states

I use my GPS as my new spedometer on the 675 now. At 100 indicated, GPS = 93. The faster you go the worse it gets. 125 = 115 in RL ;D
