If you're going to remove those, I'd definitely safety wire the pins. We had a guy last year d-e-s-t-r-o-y his bike when his came out at speed entering the top of the corkscrew at High Pains Raceway. Once the pin was out he went to apply brake, which popped his pads, and then all hell broke loose.

I believe that you are right, If I remember the one time that I took them off, they just clipped on. I do not think they even came in contact with the pins. I do agree with wiring the pins, even thought I most likely will not.

so they could sell you replacements 5-6 years later for $20 each when you lose them

or the entire caliper when they decide its not a user-or-shop serviceable item...
